At a dinner party in London during the season, Fitzwilliam Darcy meets an enchanting young woman. Darcy quickly realizes she is a woman estimable in her own right, and he finds himself besotted. But amid the miraculous events of a lost soul returning home, dark forces conspire against the young woman, for her loss was not an accident.

The friendship is born out of an almost tragedy and extreme bravery by one Elizabeth Bennet. In saving the lives of those in peril, she thwarts the designs of one of the villains of this tale and makes an enemy of the person. As in canon, our Anne is sickly. In this variation, it is because she had suffered a bad case of childhood scarlet fever. For the purposes of this story, the disease has seriously weakened her cardiovascular system.

His heir, Fitzwilliam Darcy, paid a heavy price. Mr. Thomas Bennet, at the persistent urging of his wife, chose not to have his youngest children, including his only son, vaccinated for smallpox. When the plague hit Longbourn it devastated their family. His second child, Elizabeth, paid the heaviest price for this decision of her father. After leaving Netherfield, Fitzwilliam Darcy hopes to escape the memory of Elizabeth Bennet. Yet, he cannot escape her in his dreams, where she angrily rejects his suit. As these dreams seem partially prophetic, Darcy begins to reconsider his actions in Hertfordshire. Unbeknownst to him, Elizabeth is experiencing similar dreams, seeing a different side of Darcy than the haughty demeanor he initially displayed. When they meet again in Kent, their reunion is unexpectedly amiable especially as they come to realize they shared a dream of the future.
