About this listen
A rich saga with characters that will remain with you long after the story's ended.
Three women linked by their blood, their dreams...and their sins. From Leningrad in the '70s to America and London in the present day, Kimberley Freeman's new novel follows the lives of two sisters, Lena and Natalia, and their cousin, Sofi, as they move away from Russia and all they have known.
Despite promising to always take care of each other, a pact to meet every winter is shattered as their lives change and long-held resentments begin to surface. Can that resentment turn to hatred? To murder?

A sophisticated, pause-resisting double love story spanning 40 years-an unforgettable Brief Encounter for our times. It is 1960. When Jennifer Stirling wakes up in the hospital, she can remember nothing-not the tragic car accident that put her there, not her husband, not even who she is. She feels like a stranger in her own life until she stumbles upon an impassioned letter, signed simply "B", asking her to leave her husband. Years later, in 2003, a journalist named Ellie discovers the same enigmatic letter in a forgotten file in her newspaper's archives.

Another great story
The storyline was fantastic. There’s just one thing that I didn’t care for. Other than Sam’s voice I did not care for the other male characters voices. Very harsh and very coarse. For some of the characters it didn’t suit them.

It's just not the same without Caroline Lee
I immediately added this to my cart when I saw that there was a new Kimberley Freeman novel out. I absolutely ADORE her novels, and they're brought to life by the extremely talented Caroline Lee. I was so disappointed to find out that Lee didn't narrate this one. That's like having a peanut butter and jelly sandwich without the jelly. It stuck, and it was fulfilling, but it just wasn't nearly as satisfying. A great novel, beautifully written as usual, and this narrator did a good job... but I really missed one of my favorite narrators for this one.

a shockingly weak story from Freeman.
I love Kimberly Freeman's writing. I have read multiple of her books. she writes some amazing stories that totally wrap you up. unfortunately this story is not one of them. many points for me were very unbelievable and over-the-top. it was read very well but the story was very lacking for me.

Horrible characters; great narration.
I usually don't start a review with the narration but this book is different. The narration was absolutely fantastic. The story was very interesting but what bothered me most were the main characters. I don't think I've ever read a book with more horrible characters. Lena, Natalia and Sofi are the three main characters in the book and I have a hard time figuring out which one was the worst. Lena was arrogant and vane; Natalia was such a doormat and Sofi was the least unlikable but still came across as whiny and stand offish.
I did finish the book because it did keep my interest through out; mostly because of the fantastic narration.
Usually I like Kimberly Freeman's books, but not this one.

Sisterhood with secrets
Love this author and this was a really good book. Not what I expected based on the other books I’ve read by her. This is definitely not as much of a feel-good / romantic book as some of her others but great psychological description and complex characters. Slight thriller vibes. I’m happy I read it but 3 stars vs 4 because it’s not one I think is easy to recommend to others. Also took a while to get into it

A really bad book!
For so many reasons! The author did not bother with any research. Writing a book a bout Russians you would think she had to do at least some. But no. Not the culture, not the language. The people who read the text also could not imitate the Russian accent. Which is very strange considering just how many Russian speakers live in this country. Then there is the story itself - which admittedly I didn’t finish. It was too sappy too mushy too unbelievable. It ignores all realities of life. Please don’t waste your time or credit.
