About this listen

St. Pete Beach is getting weird. Between warlocks, shark shifters, and wolf packs going to war, Hali Waverly and Gray Hunter have their hands full. Things get even worse when shifters with ties to Gray’s pack start attacking people on the beach. What’s even weirder is that when the duo step in during a frothing melee, the shifters drop dead before they can be questioned.

How is that even happening?

Hali has her suspicions, and they revolve around Marmaduke Epson, the warlock who escaped punishment only weeks before. She’s convinced he’s close…and plotting against them. Finding him is easier said than done, however.

Hali is determined to track down Marmaduke and cut him off at the knees before he can cause more trouble. Unfortunately for her, the closer she gets, the weirder the mystery becomes. It seems Marmaduke isn’t the only powerful enemy in the area. And this new enemy means business.

Hali’s frustration with shifter politics is about to spill over. Marmaduke’s ties to Gray’s pack mean trouble for everybody involved.

It seems death is coming to St. Pete Beach. Just who will survive the ultimate fight, and what will the collateral damage look like?

good read

I really liked this book. Some in the series is better than others. Amanda M Lee/Lily Harper Hart puts out a lot of good books. Narration/performance was great.

Good Groundwork

This story is a great lead up to what’s coming. Pieces to the puzzle are falling into place.

Good Story

There is a good balance of drama and humor. I want to say some specific things here but I think they would be spoilers…. I am on Team Carrie though in her debate with Halley.

Not all parents deserve forgiveness and inclusion

So… I have an issue with the main character. If you have trouble following the storyline of those who live an entitled & charmed life, yet allow ego to lead their life while showing a total lack of empathy… this story may not be for you.

I’m sorry but Hali bullying Gray into forgiving his mother.. it’s a dealbreaker for me.

Everybody deserves to feel safe in ALL of their relationships. “But it’s your MOTHER”, is not a valid argument.
If Hali is going to hold the demands over Gray’s head that their future children MUST have “4 grandparents, 2 uncles and an aunt”.. against his very clearly stated needs and boundaries he is continually having to set and reset with her around his discomfort and mistrust of his parents....
this is not love.
Plain and simple.

And I would hope that Gray, who seems to have a higher emotional intelligence than Hali due to the challenges of his upbringing; a man who needs the quality of his family to be “shown” and their love to be unconditional, wouldn’t want to raise a child with a person who decides for both of them that his needs are not valid.

That a big family who you probably can’t trust is more important than a small family filled with love and emotional (and physical) safety.

Blood is not more important than sanity, safety, and comfort.
It just isn’t.

But of course, we’re talking about Hali. This character has lived a life surrounded by love and support, to the point she feels stifled & chooses to reject the help and love from others due to nothing more than her pride.

It must be quite a soft life, to feel safe enough to have the option to let one’s pride reject the love and help of others who surround, truly love, and support oneself unconditionally.
