About this listen

‘Beautiful, amazing, mesmerising’ ALAN CUMMING

A MISSING PERSON MYSTERY LIKE NO OTHER

I am not gone. Mum is not gone. We are here. We are hidden.

A father who is trying to rescue his lost wife.

Their child, desperately searching the wild forests and dangerous mountains of the Scottish Highlands, not knowing what’s out there.

An abandoned cottage in the remote wilderness, filled with thousands of confusing, terrifying handwritten notes.

And a dark, looming voice who threatens to destroy everything…

‘This hallucinatory debut will grab you’ DAMIAN BARR

‘Mind-alteringly beautiful writing’ KIRSTIN INNES

I did not understand what was going on during most, if not all, of the book…perhaps because not much of anything is actually happening. The entire book is simply the protagonist’s stream of consciousness; because he was seemingly losing his mind, it was hard to follow. A lot of rumination and “breathing”. At the beginning, it is hard to tell if the protagonist is speaking or reading someone’s words. Story was not good; I constantly asked myself what the plot is about, what the conflict is and what the goal of the protagonist is. Ironically, I believe that Wilson is a really good writer; his ability to tell a story, however, is apparently not his strong suit.
