I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t enjoy it

I wasn’t inspired by this audiobook. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t enjoy it either.

The story concept was unoriginal and had some fairly gaping plot holes, but it could have been elevated into something much better if it had been paired up with the right narrator for the job. Unfortunately, I don’t think J. Scott Bennett was the right narrator – he didn’t incorporate any emotion into the characters or add to the suspense, the audio itself was slow and wasn’t able to hold my attention or interest.
The production quality was good and I wondered if it was just me being fussy that was getting in the way of my enjoying this book but the more I think about it, the more I think that it really was the lack of any emotion and intonation that made it hard to latch on to.

Rory is back in his hometown and goes on a lakeside camping trip with his old high school buddies, and you know what that means in any zombie novel! After most of his friends have been devoured, he joins up with a ragtag bunch of survivors and tries to get out of the danger zone before it’s too late.

I never did pick up on the finer points of the whys and wherefores of this zombie outbreak, but the local undertaker has been dumping bodies in the lake which was contaminated with toxic waste a decade ago.
This can obviously mean only one thing… Waterborne zombies.
This idea was actually pretty novel and could have been fascinating, but the story focused more on the survivors rather than the cause of the outbreak.

The story plods on predictably once the zombies have taken their first lumbering steps above the water, though this could be more of a statement on how many zombie novels and films I’ve devoured.

This is one of those rare moments when I highly recommend reading the print edition of this book rather than listening to the audio, I found my attention wandering throughout the story and think that I would have got on much better by reading the book myself.

I enjoyed listening to another audio book. I felt the appropriate way about different characters and most importantly I was gripped by tense moments. Good story and good narrator.

Just ok

The first half of this book managed to be the most boring zombie book I have ever listened to. The male characters were incredibly juvenile, obsessed with boobs. It got kinda interesting in the second half but it never really hooked me. The concept was quite unique, but the whole thing just didn't work for me.

The narrator gave a good performance. Doing many voices and emotion well. I do not personally care for his voice or accent, but his performance was good.

Floodwater

A zombie tale with a twist. Not bad for a hackneyed subject.
Knowing what I know now I'd still listen to it. The performance was better than average.

A non-stop action packed story...

What made the experience of listening to Floodwater the most enjoyable?

The voices were dead on.

When the Zombies first came out and the everyone thought the kids were too stoned to know what was real.

What happens when a group of young adults go to a bonfire at the local beach, only to have zombie’s walk out of the lake to attack them? A non-stop action packed story, readers will not want to put down! I loved this story, the characters, the imagery and writing. The language was a bit much, but I’m pretty sure I would have used the same language in the same situations. Somehow, Fisher was able to write in a love story or two. Now, that’s talented writing.
Overall, Floodwater is a strong 5 Boundless Stars book. I was offered a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I received the audio book and loved the narration too. The voices were dead on. No pun intended.

Slimy Zombies Nibbling Toes

Have you listened to any of J. Scott Bennett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Solid narration that doesn't distract from the storyline.

Yet another reason to stay out of the water. Zombies by the lake climb out and eat lots of people. Characters are moderately fleshed out, most of which is removed by the zombies during the course of the book. Fast paced and lots of gore and action with sequel potential.
Definitely needs some better proof reading.

Different take on the tradional "zombie"

Where does Floodwater rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I was pleasantly surprised. An enjoyable book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The hero, Rory's actions at the very end was my favorite part of the whole book!

Have you listened to any of J. Scott Bennett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

He has a nice and entertaining voice. His voice made the book better, as some narrator's hurt the book.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Again at the very end. I was shocked and surprised by the ending. Hope there is a sequel.

Even though I was given this book for free for an unbiased review, if there is a second in the series, I will buy it myself!

Oh Dear God... Zombies at The Lake.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I wouldn't want my friends to think that I'd started drinking.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

There was a guy who exhaled a Mellon
Collie Sigh.

A guy who Senuously unhooked a woman's bra.
A woman who Senuously began to swim.
There was a Helicopter that had Propellers.
A truck that sprayed Mosquito repellent.
And a boat that sprayed sparks, when it's Fiberglass Hull scraped across a roadway.

You can drag a Dead Horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

Worth the listen, but...

The story is good, leaves you hanging. I hope there's a sequel, but...the narrator made everyone sound like they were 90 year old country bumpkins. Very strange that he chose to make the characters sound that way. It was distracting and took away from the book as a whole.
