About this listen

The passengers of United Airlines Flight 93 on September 11, 2001 have earned their rightful place among the pantheon of American heroes. Flight 93 provides a riveting narrative based on interviews, oral histories, transcripts, recordings, personal tours of the crash site, and voluminous trial evidence made public only in recent years. There also is plenty of chilling new detail for listeners who think they know the story of the flight.

Utilizing research tools that were not available in the years immediately after the crash, the book offers the most complete account of what actually took place aboard United 93—from its delayed takeoff at Newark International Airport to the moment it plunged upside-down at 563 miles per hour into an open field in rural Somerset County, Pennsylvania.

This is near the top of the 9/11 books I’ve read/listened to. I thought the author would struggle to create a structured narrative and fill out a story where there are some important gaps, but he did a great job and it definitely is worth a listen.

A Top 9/11 Book

Absolutely love this story. It reminds all of us how awesome America and what an American hero looks like.

Personal Stories

The story of Flight 93 is one that can never be forgotten. And as it fits into the overall story of the day that changed America, it stands out. For it was the one flight where a chance to revolt was taken and given, most by circumstance. Had the flight not been delayed, etc. it’s likely many would not have known what happened to the twin towers. And that the plane was deemed to be a missile. So the passengers sought to do something about it instead of allowing their plane to be a weapon to kill more people. Will Damron is the perfect narrator for this.

A book that all Americans should listen to or read about the heroism of the 40 passengers of Flight 93. It goes into great detail of the minutes before the flight and what led to the passengers attempting to retake the aircraft and the years and efforts required to build a memorial to honor those people. The details and descriptions make you feel like you were there

A moving tribute

Beautifully written. I found both half’s of the book (the flight and the aftermath) compelling. Would absolutely listen to again.

Excellent

This book was written with apparent care and caution. It is respectful to those victims as well as incredibly researched and informative.

I had to pause at a few moments only because there are some heavy situations that might cause one to have to take a mental break, but I applaud this author for not holding back but at the same time treating all those lives lost that day with incredible honor and respect.

I was at first a bit disturbed with taking the amount of time that the author did in giving the readers background on the hijackers. However, once the events on Flight 93 take place, you have a much more rounded understanding as to who is who and what their motives were, without being sympathetic to them. It made the story flow better and gave us the readers a clearer portrait as to what happened in the air that day.

This is a very heavy read and I strongly suggest to take breaks in between, but for History buffs like myself, this is a must read. Bravo to the Author!
