Long ago the gods chose a great hero to act as their agent in the mortal world and to stand against the demonic spawn of Chaos. The gods gifted their champion, Daemron, with three magical Talismans: a sword, a ring, and a crown. But the awesome power at his command corrupted Daemron, turning him from savior to destroyer. Filled with pride, he dared to challenge the gods themselves. Siding with the Chaos spawn, Daemron waged a titanic battle against the Immortals. In the end, Daemron was defeated, the Talismans were lost, and Chaos was sealed off behind the Legacy - a magical barrier the gods sacrificed themselves to create.

Harry Potter meets Twilight
Pretty decent story read by a decent narrator. Duncan White does a good job with the English accents. Although the main character is american caught in 19th century London, at times it seems he mysteriously develops an English accent. The rest of the characters are done adequetly. Duncan reads at a slow enough pace and at a steady tone so the listener can easily follow along and visualize in their mind's eye what is happening.
The first half of the story is pretty awesome. I could sense influences such as Stephen King, Dean Koontz, even Roger Zelazny (walking among shadow changing your environment until you find the place you want - also a good bit of shape shifting thrown in), also Charles Dicken's Oliver Twist and of course Frank Peretti. The second half or at some point in the story however, you get a healthy dose of the Twilight series and some similarities to Harry Potter and his powers without the little stick (summoning fire to devour enemies and protection bubbles ala Gandalf the Grey). Anyhow although some reading this may disagree, the main character and story started to veer off into a Harry Potter versus the dudes and dudet from twilight or underworld or interview with a vampire something or other.
The influence of Frank Peretti is only slight as there is only slight mention of angels and for that matter the Word of God. This is not a full in your face Christian fantasy horror like Peretti's This Present Darkness books. It is however a mishmash of different legends and myths thrown into a spiritual warfare story or so the author leads you to believe so.
Hopefully the rest of the series will actually involve God and His "Angels". This is a story about the descendants of the Fallen - whether they be werewolves, vampires, giants, gargoyles, elves, pixies, shape shifters, telekinesis and the like.
Hope this review was helpful and not utterly confusing.

Great Book!!
If you could sum up Fallen in three words, what would they be?
Adventure, suspense, entertaining!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Fallen?
Brody was a strong Christ following character and never really questioned his salvation.
Which scene was your favorite?
I cannot choose! I loved the whole book and could not wait to keep listening any chance I could get!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Brody's faith and the ripple effect of it. His faith was powerful and others believed because of it.
Any additional comments?
Wonderfully written! I love that even though it is fantasy, there is still the Christ element in it. I do not relate as well to books, movies, or tv shows where no one even thinks of Jesus as a way out or condsiders asking Him for help.

Have not.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I listened to this on a long drive and it was gripping and helped the time pass.

Surprising twist
What did you love best about Fallen?
I enjoyed this book very much. I was confused with the theology of it until the twist at the end, and I was pleasantly surprised. Duncan White did a great job with the narration and I'm anxious to hear more from him. The idea that there is another very active realm (or dimension) that's invisible to us is a legitimate teaching from the KJV and this story left me with a lot to ponder long after I was done listening. I'm deep into Descendant now and looking forward to reading the whole series.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Fallen?
The surprise at the end just gelled everything together
Have you listened to any of Duncan White’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is the first I've heard from Duncan.

a very poor narration...
I really like the author and the story, but get a better narrator, he'll put you to sleep, he reads like a computer generated voice, he doesn't even sound like he even likes the book, very poor narration. Duncan White was a poor choice of a narrator.

There are too many vampires, fairies and the like in this story to make it believable. I listened to most of it once before and my impression was right. I can't even get through it.
