About this listen

From the greatest western writers of the twenty-first century, the first adventure in The Eagles, one of the most iconic and beloved sagas of the American frontier

A man as rugged as the New Frontier and as bold as the untamed West . . .

Orphaned at the age of seven and adopted by the Indians, Jamie Ian MacCallister grew into a man more at ease in the wilderness than among men. But when the westward strike drove him across the Arkansas Territory into Texas, he finally found himself a home—in the middle of a bloody war.

Texans like Jim Bowie and Sam Houston were waging a fierce struggle against Santa Anna's Mexican army, and Jamie MacCallister made the perfect scout for the fledgling volunteer force. What lay ahead of them was a place called the Alamo, thirteen days of blood, dust, and courage, and a battle that would become an undying legend of the American West . . .

The Audiobook Appears To Be A Historical Fiction Novel Set In The American West, Particularly Focusing On The Events Surrounding The Battle Of The Alamo In Texas. Listeners Praise The Engaging Storyline, Intriguing Characters, And The Author's Ability To Weave Historical Accuracy Into The Narrative. The Protagonist, Jamie Mccallister, Is Described As A Compelling And Well-developed Character, With A Positive Influence From Native American Culture. The Narration Is Also Commended For Its Captivating Quality. However, Some Listeners Found The Pacing To Be Slow At Times, With Excessive Details And A Predictable Plot. A Great story line, action. Romance, action. Patriotic and historical exciting. Great character development and interesting native Americans and historical Mexican war hero’s! Bigger then life super heroes and action packed gun fights. Painting the old west with excitement and historical facts, where you really care about the characters. Best of the MacCallister books I’ve heard

I really enjoyed how Johnstone interwove true history with this fictional character. Outstanding.
I probably enjoyed this book more than any of the dozens of Johnstone’s books I’ve read previously.

Excellent review of an historical event, along with the novel of interesting characters

I enjoyed all of it. The historical narrative, along with the humorous fictional characters. A great book. The narrator was excellent as well.

An exciting introduction to Jamie McCallister's character

Having already listened to a few Preacher and McCallister novels, I enjoyed getting the story of his beginnings and early life. These were exciting stories on their own, with great appreciation of the positive influence of Native Americans in the lead character.

An added bonus was the interweaving of the early history of my beloved Texas. I enjoyed that immensely. I learned more about that history, too.

Thank you, Mr. Johnstone.

Pure fun

Lots of intertwined storylines researched and blended perfectly with the real history of the Texas fight for independence and the famous showdown at the ALAMO. Nicely done!

Outstanding

This one of the best of Mr. Johnstone works. Narration is spot on. Looking forward to the next one but have concerns about a dramatized version.

Remember the Alamo!!

A great story with the historically accurate events leading up to, and directly following the siege of the Alamo.
Very applicable to the need for valiant men, and women in today's America.
