About this listen

Debt of Honor ends as Jack Ryan is confirmed vice president minutes before a mammoth act of terrorism kills the President, most of his cabinet, all but a few members of Congress, the entire Supreme Court and all of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Suddenly Ryan is President, which is where Executive Orders begins.

Ryan's responsibilities crush in on him. Where should he begin? He must calm a nation, pacify world leaders, arrange a massive funeral -- while he rebuilds a government as quickly as possible. But that's not all. Enemies abroad and at home see opportunities, and they'll soon present President Ryan with an unimaginable crisis. How will he tackle his greatest challenge ever?

Critic reviews

"Holmes writes with an easy warmth about kind people who are trying their best but messing things up anyway.... A warm and lovely romance, perfect for readers of Rainbow Rowell and Louise Miller.” (Kirkus Reviews [starred review])

“The charm of Holmes’ novel comes not only from a genuine friendship between Evvie and Dean that develops into a sweet romance but also from watching amiable Evvie stumble through the process of finding herself in a realistic way. A warm and funny book that will utterly captivate fans of Abbi Waxman and Taylor Jenkins Reid.” (Booklist [starred review])

“Holmes’ debut charms, as a young widow and a former Major League pitcher learn to begin again.... At times deeply emotional yet sometimes extremely humorous, this is a satisfying crowd-pleaser.” (Publishers Weekly)

Always relevant

This book is as good an relevant today as it was when it was published in 96. Clancy did an amazing job building out all the layers of this story.

Read CVery good book lancy

If you could sum up Executive Orders in three words, what would they be?

Very good book

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jack love him. Wish we had people like him for real.

Have you listened to any of Michael Prichard’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Very good but I do wish he was not alone he playing 2 many people in one story.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

I would not make a movie from this book. Two make a movie would take the last book and this one and you would have two cut to much out.

Any additional comments?

Tom Clancy is one of the grates writers this is a must read book.

Oh, if only we had a real Jack Ryan!

Good story, could not put it down. Clancy should cause us to examine how our government runs.

Great Tale

This book is just why I expect from a book by Tom Clancy about John Ryan. All the characters, even peripheral, are well constructed and worth reading and re-reading.

Very good... Well written... Well read!

Enjoy the books and Prichard is the best of the group that reads them. Following Debit of Honor, Executive Orders does not disappoint.

Need to read in 2020

So appropriate for 2020, especially before the elections. Should be required reading for all Americans. Thank you Tom Clancy.

one of my favorite authors

I really enjoy this narrator. My only problem with the book is the reference "We got brothers buried over at Little Bighorn" and repeated references to "Operation Custer" as if Custer is someone to look up to. Otherwise I really have enjoyed the book. I've read it in paperback and in hardback and I've listened to it and "Debt of Honor" multiple times I just set them to play and go about my daily routine
