About this listen
Evelyn Tester is sleepwalking through her suburban life - until a late-night phone call startles her awake. Her husband, a prestigious psychiatrist, has been in an accident. And he isn't alone.
Suddenly Evelyn's world isn't as tidy as she thought. And in the midst of it all is Juliette, not only her husband's secret lover but also his patient. If news of the affair were to get out, it would ruin more than just Evelyn's marriage. Although it's a bitter pill for Evelyn to swallow, protecting her family means staying silent - even if, as she begins to discover, the night of the accident has consequences far more dangerous than the unmasking of an affair.
But the more Evelyn learns about Juliette's picture-perfect life - complete with a handsome, unsuspecting husband - the more she yearns for revenge...and satisfaction. Her growing obsession fuels her rage, burning away her complacency. What will be left of her after it flames out?

Jane’s days at a Midwest insurance company are perfectly ordinary. She blends in well, unremarkably pretty in her floral-print dresses and extra efficient at her low-level job. She’s just the kind of woman middle manager Steven Hepsworth likes - meek, insecure, and willing to defer to a man. No one has any idea who Jane really is. Least of all Steven. But plain Jane is hiding something. And Steven’s bringing out the worst in her.

Of course, I’m not going to murder her in the night. I need my laptop back first. That’s the whole point of making friends with Emily Harper, author of the hugely successful novel Diary of an Octopus. So I could get into her apartment and take back what’s mine. Emily doesn’t know who I really am. She thinks I’m her biggest fan, her new best friend who happens to need a place to stay for a few days. She doesn’t realize the laptop she found—and took—from a busy airport almost two years ago was mine. I don’t care about the laptop, just what's on it: my diary.

Nothing surprising
I chose this book after reading Jane Doe which i liked due to the main characters unapologetic view of herself. This book was quite different and once again we see a middle-aged woman who gave up her personal dreams to pursue marriage , husband and kids and feels like an empty shell of what she used to be. It wasn’t a bad book, it just wasn’t a book that left any kind of impression.

Slightly disappointed in the ending. Also a lot of before and after. Good narration. All in all a good lighter story than I usually listen to.

An unexpected surprise.
Finally, a story that didn't give away the ending. I loved the way each chapter was titled either Before or After and allowed you to follow the story in the present and past. A truly realistic view of how she sees herself through someone else's eyes and becomes that person, and finally finds her true self by looking deep within herself without letting others influence her.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the story the narration, and the characters.

Demented, intriguing, terriffying
Would you listen to Evelyn, After again? Why?
No, only because I have a strict policy of only listening to a book once.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
The ending seemed to end abruptly whereas the other parts of the story seemed to really draw in your attention.
I found myself a little surprised during parts of the story that we weren't hearing more about the girl who was found dead after the hit & run and you heard an overabundance of the affair.
I did like the story, just perplexed at what seemed to hold a heavier value than death.
Which scene was your favorite?
Well, since I did NOT care for Evelyn, AT ALL. I loved when the man she was having an affair with broke it off after their trip to the quaint little town.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I would say yes because I just kept wanting to see what would happen with the murder and the affair and how it would all play out with the spouses.

I LIKED it!
This book got some bad reviews. People complained that it wasn't a psychological thriller. One complained that it's not a mystery/thriller. Well, folks, nowhere in the description does it says that it's a thriller, much less a psychological thriller. It doesn't even say it's a mystery. There is a psychiatrist. There's a vehicular homicide. It's a story of the marriages of 2 couples, and one person from each of the 2 couples have gotten themselves in trouble due to stupidity. Evelyn exacerbates the problem by not doing anything about it. And getting into her own kind of trouble due to stupidity.
So! What's the take out of this? It's exactly as the description states. One reviewer talks about the affairs in it. Yep, there are. If that's offensive to you, you won't like the book. There's sex, but far less graphic sex than many Harlequin romances. Fast forward through those parts if it's offensive to you. What there isn't is offensive language. So many books fill a lot of space with the F-bomb and other cursing. I liked the book. It's very readable, it's interesting, the characters are well-developed, and there aren't hundreds of characters being thrown in.
I read Jane Doe and liked that very much and immediately went to find another by her.
And finally, the narrator that some people complained about. I actually liked her very much and I'm VERY picky about narrators. I don't take reviewer's words on whether or not the narrator is good. I always listen to the sample of the narrator's voice and if I don't like it, I won't get the audiobook. This one has a pleasant and expressive voice. You can tell the characters apart and men and women apart without that horrid voice distortion some people screech. There's a sample of the narrator talking for every book on Audible. Enough sample that you can decide you might want to read it instead of listening to it. I decided I like her and bought the book, and liked it a lot.

Lots of Twists, Kept You Wanting To Know
Although there were many POV's I liked it. It gave the story depth and intensity I don't think it would have had without it. I definitely did not guess correctly and that always makes me like the book even more. Narration was really good, trying to make a variation of each character then going back to it was real talent!
