About this listen
What will happen? Who survived? How will they fight the invading troops?
Annie Hamilton woke up to pounding on her door. A neighbor, Sandy Carlson, who seldom interacted with her, stood outside her door. She was hysterical with grief and horror of waking up next to her dead husband and being unable to get through to 911 or roust any neighbors. Together, they soon realized all the adults on the street were dead. Only a handful of children survived.
Once they realized the extent of the horror, they collected survivors, some adults but mostly children. On a trip scavenging, they met Brad Scottman and more children. Realizing the numbers required better accommodations to care for the surviving children, Annie led the group to a local church.
Annie met a Houston Police officer, Lester Jenkins, and together, they led the surviving adults to find survivors, adults, and children and gathered them at the church. Numbers swelled to over a hundred people. All the while, Lester and a growing team of men spent time confronting or avoiding gangs running the streets.
Annie and her team of survivors organized a convoy to escape the clutches of the foreign forces. During the exodus, members of Annie’s team destroyed two UN trucks entering the neighborhood as Annie and the trucks, pickups, and buses left the church.
Annie led the survivors to a resort camp over one hundred fifty miles away. It was a camp that she knew well since she had visited it for a writing assignment the previous year. It was well away from any major roads or towns. All the while, Annie hoped that other people hadn’t already taken over and would turn them away. Only time and a long journey will tell if Clear Creek River Inn becomes their new home.
Pressed into the unlikely role of leader, Annie Hamilton finds getting her small band of survivors to safety entails more than she bargained for. It seems every problem is hers to solve with the help of a black HPD officer, Lester Jenkins.
All the while, Annie worries about two young men who chose to stay behind to fight the invaders in the suburbs of Houston. She vows to save them from their rash decision when Annie and Lester lead the survivors, leaving the city to find sanctuary at Clear Creek River Inn
