About this listen
K. N. "Cannon" Ball and his superstar wife, Tempest, are running for their lives. Cannon has exposed a fraud so huge even heads of government are implicated and determined to keep Cannon from ever testifying. Nowhere is safe, so they step out of time to a research station 50 million years in the past. The dinosaurs died out eons ago and there aren't any people around, so they ought to be safe then, right? Wrong, very wrong!
A new Dave Duncan novel is always a reason to celebrate, and his trademark blend of high adventure, hard science, and wry humour makes Eocene Station a must listen.

One thing you expect is time travel stories that take you to familiar places, ans so to get a new destination is always fun. I think most writers first instinct is go go back millions of years, and end up (inevitably) during one of th dino periods. Dincan doesn't do that, he goes to the Eocene epoch. This is the age of Mammals, and it is a refreshing change. T-Rex and Spinosaurus are good go to dinos, but they are almost troupe at this point. I also like that this time traveling isn't done willy nilly. It is not easy or cost efficient to do on a whim, and that adds believability.
Duncan's characters are flawed (some waaay more than others) and you will feel for them, as they are not perfect icons of humanity, but real live people struggling to survive the trials and tribulations of life long before they ever go to the past. Duncan pounds out some great one-liners, and knows how to tell a story. I also appreciate that this is (or so it seems) to be a stand alone novel. You really do not see that enough anymore.
Brunetto does great as a narrator, I think he fits Duncan's style well, and he is easy to follow, and he keeps things flowing.
I really enjoyed this book. Read it now!
