About this listen
Xander Bane. The diminutive antihero you never knew you needed.
Xander Bane, a half-breed of a vampire and a demon, has been around for more than 300 years, and in that time he has been scorned by everyone with whom he crosses paths. Known infamously from the Fae War as the Abominable Butcher for his brutal killing style, Xander uses his skills working for the Assassin's Guild. Word spreads that he has broken the Vampire Pact, an accord struck at the end of the war that forbids all vampires from feeding on sentient beings, and now he's being pursued by the Peacekeepers of Le'orn, a fanatical group of mages tasked with enforcing all pacts and agreements.
Will Xander's cunning save him from the mages, or will he end up with his head on the chopping block?

Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs, once thought of almost as gods, were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. A good start...
Narrator did great with male characters and shrugged with female. great job overall!
Story:
I enjoyed most of the story and journey. From a worrying aspect there were a lot of related phrases and words. If I ever hear "diminutive form" or "her core" again ever in my life I will run screaming in the other direction. (These were the most egregious offenders.)
Aside from that, there is a sec scene that wants to be somehow explicit in that it doesn't fade to black but then not lewd as it's as if it were being described in front of someone's grandmother. PICK A DIRECTION. Either fade to black or lean in hard and embrace the act in all its carnal glory.
By the end of the book, I wanted to hear more so sins aside I call that a success. Good job author, and I can't wait to see where our DIMINUTIVE Dampire goes!

Half-breed versus mages
Joshua Griffith's Enter the Dampire is a fast-paced, well written fantasy novel filled with interesting characters. From half-breeds to vampires, demons, assassins and vengeful mages, fans of the fantasy genre should find something to suit their needs.
Victor Warren is a talented narrator and his performance for Enter the Dampire is spot on. He switches with ease between a large range of voices and accents and, as such, he keeps all the characters alive and clearly differentiated in the listener's mind for the entire duration of the audio production.
I really enjoyed my time spent with all these colorful individuals and the author's writing style, which is at the same time funny and intriguing, makes this listening experience even more immersive.

Enjoyable Story Kept Me Interested
4.5 out of 5 stars
One of the things I like most about audiobooks is the ability to find new authors to read and listen to. Enter the Dampire is exactly like that. I’ve never heard of or read anything by Joshua Griffith, but I can tell you this, after this book I’ll be checking more stuff from him out. His writing style drew me in from the first lines and kept me there with a combination of intrigue, great character building, and old-fashioned plot-work.
Enter The Dampire was a novel that had me laughing as much as it had me “looking away”. It’s a great combination of writing styles that when you combine them, turns this into a really interesting book.
The first thing I noticed about this book was just how good the performance by Victor Warren was. The story pulled me in quickly but Victor Warren’s narration kept me intrigued. He’s able to voice each character in a way that makes them interesting but also so that as a reader I know who is who.
Overall, an enjoyable book that I’m glad that I picked up. One that I will continue the series if it comes to audio and if Warren narrates it.

Great!
I loved this story! I’ve never read/listen to one like this. It was entertaining and the characters were fun to follow along with, making it hard to stop listening.
The only negative thing I can say is in regard to the writing style, more specifically the editing/lack of editing involved.
I tried to figure out why there were times when the author went from past tense to present tense, seemingly randomly, throughout the story. Keep in mind, if the story is written in past tense, the narrative will be in past tense and/or past perfect tense (if a character thinks back on a previous event). Going from past to present narrative in this type of story just made no sense to me.
Speaking of no sense, I learned a while back that when changing POVS, if the story is plot-driven, using multiple POVS in a single scene is fine. If the story is character-driven, as is the case here, then you should stick to one POV per scene. But, for whatever reason, the author used multiple POVs for just about each scene.
Going back to the editing or lack thereof, I realized that the majority of the time when “onto” should have been used, it was “into.” For example, “The mage fell over INTO her back.” Or “Xander got up and dusted the clump of dirt INTO her body.” Or “Xander crumpled the letter and let it fall INTO the floor.”
There was a fair amount of repetition (I didn’t save examples for that). I also came across multiple times when the plural tense should have been used but singular was instead. For example, “Xander destroyed her naughty thoughts and replaced IT with…” Since “thoughts” is plural, “IT” should have been plural – “them.”
One thing, besides the above, that annoyed me was Xander constantly being referred to as “diminutive” as in diminutive dhampir, diminutive stature. I’m sure all the readers/listeners got that Xander was a little fella, so there was no need to repeatedly refer to him by his size, not to mention him being an abomination.
I loved the narrator! He did an awesome job. I have no complaints there. He did some great accents. I noticed the guild master’s voice sounded like Christopher Walken.
Questions/Comments:
The only question I had relating to the story itself was how Xander was able to pick up the mage. I understand he’s strong, but if he’s about half the size of her (coming up to the top of her legs), how was he able to get in position to pick her up and carry her somewhere, without having issues with her legs getting in the way?
I lied, I just realized I have one more question. How was the mage embarrassed about Xander seeing her breasts (how many times had he seen them already) prior to having sex, yet was totally fine (no comment from her) when he was cleaning up her diarrhea?
I received a free audiobook code in exchange for an honest review.
