About this listen

Dylan knew that the boiler was about to blow apart, and if he didn’t act fast, he and the others in the pump room at the number three mine would all die.

In his haste to escape a scalding death, the engine operator panicked and fell. Dylan lifted his heavy shovel as high as his 12-year-old arms could manage and swung at the thundering machine. It could've killed him, but he had to try. As the shovel’s steel head slammed into the machine, it set in motion a series of events that would shape his entire life.

What listeners say about Dylan's Journey

Highly rated for:

The Audiobook Appears To Be A Historical Fiction Novel Set In The American West, Following The Lives Of Settlers And Their Struggles In The Frontier. Many Reviewers Praised The Engaging Characters, Enjoyable Storyline, And Captivating Narrative That Paints A Vivid Picture Of The Time Period. However, Others Criticized The Book For Unrealistic Portrayals, Particularly Of Women And Societal Attitudes, As Well As Historical Inaccuracies And A Predictable Plot. Some Found The Writing Juvenile Or Lacking In Depth Of Character Development. Overall, It Seems To Be A Light, Adventurous Read With Elements Of Romance And Frontier Life.

Great story performed by the BEST narrator!

I don’t typically do reviews, but I enjoyed this book so very much, I had to share! This isn’t a book I would have picked just based on the synopsis, but I enjoy Jim Meskimen so much that I decided to give it a shot. I’m so glad I did!

This is a great story with well-developed characters and the perfect amount of action and clean romance! The story does have some content that may be difficult for some readers - namely SA.

The real star of this story is Jim Meskimen. He is hands-down my favorite narrator. His voice is like snuggling under a warm blanket with a cup of hot cocoa on a cold day. His voice acting is great with plenty of range for multiple characters.

If you’re looking for a story that is easy to listen to, with just enough adventure and excitement, give this book a listen!

Great story !

Jim Meskimen narration is great. I was drawn into Dylan’s world from the first minute. Kept me listening to see what would happen next. It’s not the usual murder mystery genre I listen to but it is a very good story.

Dylan’s Journey

Dylan’s journey through life is an easy read and it relates to many trials that each of us face throughout life in a different century. The respect and this young man has for his family, and himself and his own inner strength is so admirable.
The narrator is PERFECT! Awesome job.
I would recommend this book to someone who is interested in history of the United States, and the trials of the new settlers.
I loved it from start to finish.
Thanks you C. j. Petit for your writing skills and Jim Meskimen for your most awesome narration skills. You totally made it happen like a motion picture show.
