About this listen
No matter how far she rides, she can’t escape her past....
Yanna Gray has settled into Ragondian life as a Stonehaven student. Deep down she knows she is destined to become a rider trainee.… And her dragon bond feels it as well. But Yanna is torn between focusing on her riding or magecraft, unsure of the right path. Choosing a discipline is the hardest decision she’s ever faced.
Until a secret from her past on Earth places all of Ragond in jeopardy....
Deadly accidents plague the realm. A shimmering new bridge inexplicably collapses. Then a dam tragically crumbles into dust. All without a trace of magic. A devastating dissonance between worlds threatens the very existence of those Yanna has grown to love and respect. Now, she must decide if family means more than just flesh and blood.
Before her new home, and everyone in it, crumbles to dust....

Riley’s 17th birthday should have been fun, but when a knife-wielding psycho attacks her best friend, of course Riley tries to stop him. Turns out, taking a knife through the heart isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Neither is death. Instead of pearly gates, Riley wakes up alive and ensnared in a witch’s curse with 12 paranormals known as the Outcasts—including the inhumanly beautiful, totally-hates-her-guts vampire Jasper. And shifters, faeries, witches, and other creatures that shouldn’t exist? They’re real. And Riley just might be the most powerful paranormal amongst them.

The witch hunters attack!
Wow, once I started listening, I was hooked! Yanna may have thought she was finished with the witch hunters, but like a bad penny, they keep showing up. The chaos, destruction, and harm they dish out is terrible. What happens when her old life meets up with her new life? Will she ever be free from them? This action-packed story is filled with danger, destruction, chaos, dragons, mages, magic, dragon riders, soul skipping, weapons, witch hunters, Mythos, Felix, prophesy, rescue and battles.

Still Learning about Her New World, When ...
The action in this delightful trilogy heats up in book 2! We still see some of the very fascinating classroom lectures at the magical school of Stonehaven in the realm of Ragond. To me, these classroom moments are some of the highlights of the series. It not only allows our female protagonist, still very new to Ragond, to learn about her new home but also allows the reader to appreciate the complex history and magic of not only Ragond but the realms connected to it, including Earth and Mythos. In this book, our female heroine is reunited with some of her Earthian friends, but the meeting is not at all what she hoped or imagined it would be. Let's just say she is gravely endangered by someone she never thought would have threatened her existence. We learn more about the complexity of the interconnection between the realms and the new time-shifting dissonance that's affecting several realms in unexpected ways, including nature. I don't want to give away too much, as this book and this series—as all have been I read or listened to by this author—are best experienced, especially the twists and turns that happen as Ragond becomes increasingly imperiled. In this book, I felt a little frustrated with the female protagonist at times. Sometimes, she's more bold than smart, and I much prefer a smart heroine! In book one, she created a web of lies to keep her witch-hunter past hidden, but in this book, truths will come out! How will they—and she!--be accepted by the people she now considers family, more supportive than her actual family on Earth ever was? You'll have to read the book! And I recommend you do so if you love well-written dragon fantasy with strong young female heroines. But certainly, start with book one of the series. Even though the author provides enough backstory at the beginning of subsequent books in her series, your experience of this book will be much richer if you've read book one first. Highly recommended!

Yanna's Choices . . .
This is a time for great personal growth for Yanna Gray. She is a mage and needs to determine whether she should study the magecraft or concentrate on dragon riding. Which choice would bring the greater good? When Ragond is placed in danger, will she be able to provide help and protection? What decisions will Yanna will have to make. The action is fast-paced and exciting as things happen that demand immediate response. She has come such a long way from her early beginnings. Are great things waiting ahead for her? The narrator for the audiobook version, Rebekah Nemethy, brings the “reading” experience alive for the listener. She does a nice job with the voices to personalize the story and make it easy for the listener to get an accurate impression of what each character is like. It helps to set the mood, familiarize the reader with the characters, and offers a pleasant way to “read” and enjoy the book.

Never ceases to entertain me.
Second time through listening to this series. Ava Richardson writes wonderful, exciting and suspenseful dragon stories. The characters are well thought out and very well written. And I cannot say enough about my favorite narrator Rebekah Nemethy. She brings all of the characters to life and her story telling is so easy to follow with her talent in changing character voices. Great job Ava and Rebekah!
