About this listen
They call him the Devil....
He is the most notorious laird of Scotland: fierce, cold, deadly...and maybe even worse. Yet Evelinde has just agreed to wed him. Anything, she thinks, is better than her cruel stepmother. Though Evelinde should be wary of the rumors, she can't help but be drawn to this warrior...for the Devil of the Highlands inspires a heat within her that is unlike anything she has ever known.
They may call him whatever they wish, but Cullen, Laird of Donnachaidh, cares only for the future of his clan. He must find a wife, a woman to bear him sons and heed his commands. He has no need for beauty or grace, but one taste of his lovely bride's sweet lips and the sultry feel of her skin arouse an untamed passion. Perhaps there's more to marriage than he thought.

The treacherous ally who played on his father's weakness is dead and beyond David's vengeance, but his castle and young widow are ripe for the taking. The moment David lays eyes on the dark-haired beauty defending her wee daughters, however, he knows this frail-looking lass is the one person who could bring him to his knees. Wed at thirteen to a man who tried daily to break her spirit, Lady Alison Douglas is looking forward to a long widowhood. But when the fearsome warrior known as the Beast of Wedderburn storms her gates, she finds herself, once again, forced to wed a stranger. Alison is only a pawn to serve his vengeance, so why does this dark warrior arouse such fiery passion and an unwelcome longing in her heart? With death and danger looming, these two wounded souls must learn to trust each other; for only love can save them.

The fairy tale courtship did not turn into a happily-ever-after. Not until her husband dropped dead, that is. He had been horrible enough to Christiana during their short marriage, and she was not going to allow the traditional period of mourning to ruin her sisters' debuts as well. So she decides to put him on ice and go on as if nothing's happened.... Until the real earl appears.

Love thy neighbor, 'tis said. A fine idea, except when the neighbor in question is Lord Holden. Lady Helen Tiernay has complained frequently about his treatment of his people. Too frequently perhaps, for the king intends to curb their constant bickering by ordering them to wed. Helen can't refuse a royal decree, but she'll do everything possible to drive away her devilishly attractive husband-to-be.

Story
Lady Clarissa Crambray wanted a husband, but maybe not as much as her stepmother wanted one for her. Really! Doffing her spectacles might make a girl prettier, but how would she see? She'd already caused enough mayhem to earn a rather horrible nickname. Yet as all other suitors seemed to shy away in terror, there came a man to lead her to the dance floor. A dark, handsome, blur of a man.

good story - wrong voice
Wonderful story line but Marianna Palka voice is way to mundane for this story. She has such a monotone voice you almost lost the story.

love the story but...
the story is great I love it however the narrator's voice.... it is very well for a lack of a better word monotone. I will finish the story but I will make sure my next book is not read by her.

A Good Story
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend the book to a friend either in e-reader format or typical book format but i'm not to sure about the audio format. Because there were some character voices that were a bit annoying. But the overall story was good.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Yes.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
A moment that moved me i'm not sure of but there were parts of the book that made me laugh and smile especially when the main character was telling her husband off, it was quite humorous.
Any additional comments?
This book was good it had humor, romance, and a good story line to back it up.

Cute
This was a light and easy listening experience with a bit of romance, a bit of suspense and a bit of history thrown in. I thought the narrator did a fine job reading this book.

good book, horrible narrator
I think I liked the book but it was really hard to get into it, because the narrator was so completely monotone throat the whole book. I don't know how anybody can listen to that narrator for several hours but I did it while traveling across the state. I will never listen to another book spoken by that narrator ever again.

Great book.
This story kinda reminded me of some of Julie Garwood highlander books. Which I love, so I was very happy to have discovered it.

Narrator should find a new profession!
I have never heard a more horrific narration. It is hard to believe that the director could let this pass. It is almost like it was a deliberate attempt to sabotage the audiobook or the author or Audible itself - that is just how bad it was. Absolutely disgraceful!
The story itself was OK, but I would recommend you buy the book, not the audiobook.

Good writing mired in bad reading
The reader sounded like her high school English teacher had told her to read aloud in class. I won’t call it narration because there is no nuance to distinguish the performance from reading aloud. She handles the dialogue of the two main characters okay, but the descriptive narrative in between is stilted and flows like she is seeing the words for the first time. It made it hard to recognize that the book is actually well crafted and the characters are actually well developed. The writing underneath this horrible reading may in fact be pretty good. I’ll try another book by Lynsey Sands as long as it is not read by Marianna Palka.
