About this listen

As America struggles to gain control of its borders, extremist anti-immigrant groups and white-supremacist hate-mongers have begun to combine resources and ideologies. These new hybrids of hate pose a rising threat, not only to the country’s immigrants, but also to national security.

ATF Special Agent David Ward, undercover as a disgruntled veteran of the Army’s Special Forces, works his way into The Nation, befriending its leaders and learning its secrets…or so he thinks. In truth, the organization’s reach exceeds anything that the seasoned agent could have possibly imagined, something he will learn only when it seems too late to stop the revolution they seek.

Joel Barrows is a born story teller and it shows in Deep White Cover. The story is an entertaining thriller that plunges you into the world of David Ward, an ATF agent who goes undercover to inflitrate a white supremacy group. The story balances edge-of-your-seat suspense with a detailed account of Ward's personal struggles to deal with the weight of lies, loyalty, and isolation as he delves further into the "Nation". Barrows does an excellent job of character development throughout the story.

Barrows’s prose is sharp, painting each scene with clarity. The astonishing detail shows Barrows personal knowledge from his work as a Federal Prosecutor. The villain in the book is a chillingly believable figure, which makes the stakes feel disturbingly real.

The audiobook is elevated by excellent narration. The voice performance captures the nuance that Barrows is delivering through his entertaining prose.

Deep White Cover is a standout listen.
