About this listen

The murder of a popular surgeon, a fatal mistake in a critical care unit, and anonymous threats challenge an ICU nurse's idealistic ambitions. She finds herself caught up in a health care system that prioritizes profit over ethics and patient safety. Critical Cover-Up, a psychological thriller, delves into a mysterious murder of a prominent surgeon, cover-ups, and malpractice in a place known for saving lives.

Allison Jamison abandoned a lucrative real estate career to become a nurse and be able to impact others' lives during their most vulnerable times. When she accepts a job in a critical care unit at a prominent Florida hospital, corrupt practices threaten to shatter her illusions. An element of evil lurks just beneath the surface and around corners in a place typically known for saving lives. Stifled by hospital politics, she must find a way to expose the wrongdoers, even if it means risking her job and maybe even her life.

Centering nurses as the heroines, this thriller reads as a systemic indictment of for-profit hospital criminal behavior wrapped up with a big dose of “how to organize against workplace labor violations.” The Narrator manages to keep a seamless momentum with all those stylistic shifts.

Interesting hospital mystery with an activist twist

This Story was a eye opener about Medical errors, abuses, treatment, & Big Corporations where the $$$ is more important then the actual patients. I have personally experienced some of these problems when I was Injured in a Accident and hospitalized. I wish there really was a group doing this because there are a lot of hospitals doing Sub care treatments and they ignore patient's complaints. Narrator did a good job with the characters voices and the entire storyline.

Excellent Story about Medical Coverups

This story grabbed me because it is far too true these days. In the long run, I'm not sure I would have handled it the way Allison did but her way was effective in this day and age.

The story was gripping and the narration was excellent. I would have like a little better ending or maybe more descriptive ending. I felt it was somewhat of a letdown.

That said, I would recommend the book and will look forward to the next in the series.

This book was provided to me for an honest review. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to listen to it!

I wish this were true, but it is!

Critical Cover-Up by Margie Miklas is an enjoyable ‘medical’ mystery mixed with suspense. I loved the characters and felt emotionally tied to them. The plot and storyline are great and kept my interest until the end. Blair Seibert did a great job in the narration. I listened at 1.3 speed, which made the audio very enjoyable.

If Grey's Anatomy and Law & Order had a baby, this book would be it. There is lots of medical drama along with suspense of "who done it" and "what's going on"! there are lots of twist! Everytime I thought I had something figured out, the author would throw in a twist!
The narrator was perfect for this book! She has such a mellow voice that just vibe with the characters. She did an excellent job narrating this book. 👏
The only thing I am disappointed in is that it ended! I want more of this story with lots more action and suspense! Maybe someone finds out what Allison, Paula, and Tracy are doing and they want them to pay for ruining their career!
This is the first book I have had the pleasure of reading from the author, but I assure you it won't be my last!

keeps you on the edge of your seat!!!

This not so much a thriller story as it seems to be a nurse’s ranting about medical errors due to understaffing, the weight of the hospital drama, hierarchy and politics . Definitely an eye opener about the unseen side of medical issues, that every patient is unbeknownst putting himself/herself through every time we enter a hospital.

The story reads more like an account than a tale.
From the beginning the only perpetrator is uncovered, so no mystery there. The time line appears to stretch or lapse at will.
Nurse Alison seems to recover very easy from multiple death of loved ones while maintaining crazy working hours and following a full time computer expert learning curve.

Under the mystery/thriller etiquette I would have many unflattering critique, however I found the account grabbing and knowledgeably written, enlightening the invisible stress the nurses are put through on a daily.

Narrator Blair Siebert did an extraordinary work with the audio version.
Her voice is sooo soothing it is almost like a meditative experience. She does tremendously well for the book which otherwise would be insufferably long with too many repetitions.

more an account than a story.Not a mystery/thriler

This story hits home on so many fronts and many incidents are like deja vu for me. It is concerning that so many hospitals share the same basic deficiencies and coverups. Except for the murder drama, I personally experienced much of this in my career as a critical care nurse. It's good not to be alone in this, but sad that it happens with such frequency. Hopefully a wake up call to those in power to change things. I would have liked more closure at the end with Allison, but I enjoyed the journey. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a good job bringing it to life.

This was my first Margie Miklas's book, and won't be my last. This is the first book in the Critical Cover-Up Series, a psychological thriller. Allison is an amazing character. The plot is well crafted, and believable. I liked the twists and turns. This is a gripping thriller. Blair Seibert did a fantastic job with the narration. She has a beautiful voice. Looking forward to listening to the next book in the Series.
