About this listen
Claustrophobic, disturbing, and creepy. A lost girl is kidnapped and held for years by a dangerous man. Her doll takes the brunt of his abuse in place of the girl. Then the man is killed in a bloody and brutal attack. Now she must protect her own child from the jealous, intrusive, and sometimes vicious toy. Who will survive when they enter the crawl space under the house?
Quiet horror that punches all the buttons.

Story
Evil rules the mean streets in many guises, waiting in the shadows along the crumbled edges of the mega-cities, where murder is the only crime that leaves a trace for lesser violent acts are simply not reported. Children, the elderly, the slightly and severely damaged make up the homeless. The weak and the helpless are deemed beyond salvation and beneath contempt by all but the strongest and the cruelest who see them as a source of sustenance.

Story
Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

A master storyteller at his best - the O. Henry Prize winner Stephen King delivers a generous collection of stories, several of them brand-new, featuring revelatory autobiographical comments on when, why, and how he came to write (or rewrite) each story. Magnificent, eerie, utterly compelling, these stories comprise one of King's finest gifts to his constant fan. "I made them especially for you," says King. "Feel free to examine them, but please be careful. The best of them have teeth."

Story
For 25 years, Anne Mitchell was enslaved by what she called the "Boogeyman" - images from her lost childhood that appeared in the shadows behind her reflection in mirrors and wine glasses, haunted her dreams, and attacked her in screaming night terrors. Fear of facing that secret held her hostage. Like a schoolyard bully, it twisted her arm behind her back and forced her to accept that her life began in the dirt beside a ditch when she was 11 years old.

Creepy Doll!
I think the narrator did a good job, but perhaps wasn't the best fit. I think her voice seemed almost too scratchy sounding, in my opinion. Since it's such a short story, we (understandably) aren't given a whole lot of information as to whose point of view we are experiencing this horror from. Some narrators have a younger/older sound; and I think if the age was shown in the narrator's voice better, it would have made this short horror come more to life.
This short story is super creepy! I used to have dolls when I was younger but these kind of horror stories makes me glad I dont have them anymore. Sort of reminded me of Annabelle.
It may be short, but the writing is descriptive and twisted; it's well written and leaves plenty for the listener's imagination. If you're a scaredy cat like myself, but still want a little taste of horror, then this little tidbit is more than enough to satisfy that craving.

Brilliantly Creepy
This is my first audiobook by Dona Fox and I am now hooked. The collaboration between author and narrator produced a real symphony from written word to spoken. I look forward to more from Ms Fox, as well as more from Caroline Downs. She made the listening experience perfect.

Creepy!
A quick listen but chilling. The narration added to the suspense of the story, and I found myself wanting to know more about the main character in the story. I loved how well her insanity was protrayed, it was very believable and well written. Perfect Halloween chiller!

Creepy Crawly
A short, but oh so creepy story by the talented Dona Fox! This is the second short story that I have read by Ms. Fox and she definitely knows how to give you nightmares.
I love that the author doesn't go into gory, graphic details of the storyteller's trauma, but instead lets the reader imagine the horror all on their own. Even after finishing the story, I'm not sure if there was a true monster or just a traumatized young woman at work. And, if you aren't claustrophobic before reading this one, you probably will be afterward! And, I'm glad that I'm too old for dolls!
The narrator did a good job of adding to the creepiness of the story. I loved her subtle Southern accent too.

Creepy and unnerving.
This was a great horror story. With the story being written to terrify, and the narrator's delivery, and the overall unease that Dona Fox's work always forces upon the consumer, this is yet another great addition to your library. If you are looking for a quick great horror fiction to digest, this is the way to go!
