About this listen
An authentic and gripping legal drama. — Kirkus Reviews
This riveting crime drama dives into the heart of justice and will challenge your perceptions of right and wrong. A compelling tale of legal intrigue, emotional turmoil, and the quest for redemption is perfect for legal thrillers and crime drama fans. Follow seasoned prosecutor Jake Clearwater as he navigates through a complex murder case where the lines between justice and morality blur. Uncover the personal and professional stakes in the quest for truth with every twist and turn. Join Clearwater on a journey where every decision comes with a price and discover the actual cost of malice.
Jake Clearwater thought his days as a top prosecutor were behind him. But when the unsolved murder of a young college student resurfaces, the District Attorney’s office pulls him back into the courtroom. Tracie Switzer’s body was found two years ago, her life cut short in a horrific act of violence. The case went cold—until a jailhouse informant claimed to know the killer.
Now, Clearwater must battle a legal system riddled with half-truths, unreliable witnesses, and mounting pressure from all sides. As he navigates through the complexities of the case, Clearwater finds that even the slightest misstep could let a vicious murderer walk free. But this time, it’s not just his career on the line. With his new marriage hanging in the balance and the weight of the case threatening to crush him, Clearwater has to make tough choices about justice, loyalty, and how far he’s willing to go to win.
Tense, fast-paced, and filled with courtroom drama, Cost of Malice takes readers into the heart of the legal battle, where every decision comes with a price—and someone will have to pay.

Here we see the system through the eyes of the men and women who experience it, not only in the courtroom but in the lockup, the jury room, the judge's chambers, the spectators' gallery. The Story’s Voice
The book had more than one storyline, well written but a couple were not enjoyable due to cruelty. Oftentimes for me, It was difficult to distinguish the characters speaking because their voices sounded the same. And, I couldn’t distinguish by their tone or inflections.
