About this listen
Hours later, an alien spacecraft appears over New York City and broadcasts a dire message of impending doom. The future of the human race will depend on the whims of a solitary extraterrestrial who appears in the form of Walter Cronkite. Yes, that's right, Walter Cronkite, the deceased news anchor!
Ex-FBI troubleshooter Jake Corby has faked his death and dropped out of sight, living like a hermit in a small town. But the president is convinced Corby's still alive. He wants Jake, with his unique problem-solving skills, added to the team that will try to defeat the strange but powerful alien. Jake needs to overcome his introvert tendencies if he's going to help save the planet.
The alien has some nasty surprises for the residents of Earth, and the race is on to figure out his true motives and the meaning of the sneeze event--before it's too late.

Story
On New Year's eve 2022, unknown flying objects appear over Europe and ignite an inferno of violence among themselves. Debris from one of the spacecraft falls on Athens, turning the city center into a smoking crater. The destroyed remnant of the former metropolis is declared a restricted zone by NATO forces and sealed off. Amid the few survivors struggling for food, medicine, and clean water, Nikos takes care of his girlfriend, Maria, only to soon find out that to avert a creeping death, there is only one way out of the hell of Athens—the wreckage of the alien ship.

Story
In the mid-20th century, a routine mission to the moon resulted in an unmanned rocket missing its mark and tumbling toward the sun. The rocket was presumed lost. Life went on. A century later, the rocket came back. Believed at first to be a piece of space debris, it was soon confirmed to match the description of the ship from the long-lost moon mission. It looks like our rocket, it feels like our rocket, but it is not our rocket. What is it? How did it get here? Who sent it? And why... Debris is a science-fiction story full of mystery, adventure, and contemplation on the human condition and...

Dr. Timothy Ryan, head of the military psychiatric unit at Grantham Barracks, is meeting a new patient, a woman known as Prisoner Alpha. As she is being transferred, they are attacked by assassins, barely escaping with their lives. One shooter vanishes, leaving behind a dead companion unlike anyone Ryan has ever seen. But even more baffling is the puzzle of Alpha herself. She speaks in a strange tongue, and doodles in bars, dots, and little pictures like nothing Ryan has ever seen. Is she some sort of savant, or the most cunning spy he's ever met?

What truths lie in the black void between the stars? The “Virtual Voice” narration was tedious.
Liked the characters … they were interesting and made listening to the story compelling. Overall I liked the story but disliked the AI narrator.

An interesting concept and warning about
Despots and cultists but the AI is not ready for prime time. The quality of the voice was excellent, but the pauses , inflections and the pronunciations were way off often enough to be annoying and distracting.

Can’t finish narration is grating
Ai may be fine for 10 or 15 minutes but I was getting drawn into what seemed like a good story and just can listen to the narration anymore.

Couldn’t finish due to narration.
I really tried, but I had to give up before finishing. The Virtual Voice narration was just too annoying. Sad, as I think I would have liked the story otherwise.

Narration is so bad I couldn’t finish the book.
Ai is terrible at narration- emotionless. The tone is flat at best and inappropriate at worst.

a pretty clever story, stands out from the genre
not a thriller by any means but pretty pithy and enjoyable, definitely stands out from the crowded "hostile first contact" genre.
upgrading from four stars to five to offset the tiresome and predictable review bombing over to the AI narration, which is actually surprisingly competent. beginning to suspect the flood of cookie cutter negative reviews that immediately hit every book that has AI narration is AI generated itself. what's good for the goose is good for Skynet I suppose.
