About this listen
How could this come to be? She was raised attending a Baptist church and had asked Jesus Christ to come into her heart at age seven. However, author Candace M. Respress found herself embracing the homosexual lifestyle and acting on thoughts/emotions that she began wondering about at a young age. In her autobiography, Coming Out: Coming into Grace, Candace recalls that the attraction to both men and women began when she was a young girl. As Candace grew up, she tried to make sense of her feelings toward women in secret, as she excelled in sports and had boyfriends who were more like good friends. Her secret attraction became a reality when Candace entered college and began a relationship with a fellow female teammate. She also became more involved in the gay community and even attended a gay-friendly church with another girlfriend. Deep inside though, Candace felt she was betraying the God who loved her and was subjecting herself to one trap after another. See how Candace's story unfolds as she struggles to understand her true identity.

Story
At the base of every broken life, every dysfunctional relationship, every bad choice is a lie we believe. And at the root of every lie is fear. Fear of not having enough, fear of missing out, fear of being alone. The good news is, once we can identify and name our fears, we can defeat the lies that control us and live out the more abundant life that Christ promises us.

Story
When the carnage of war broke out on D-Day, the wounded were brought to an empty nearby church and laid on the pews so medics could treat them. When the war was over, and the blood-stained pews discovered, the townspeople decided to preserve the stains to remind all who would come afterward: This is the place where the wounded are welcome. Blood Stained Pews is a chance to examine Jesus’ original intent for the church, a hospital for the broken. Pastor and author Carl Kuhl is clear: Christians have been getting this wrong.

Infidelity, deceit, distrust, and shame. Unfortunately, these are recurring themes in many of today's marriages in America - even in the family-values-promoting, Christian-based Robertson family. With a romance that began in junior high, the couple got off to a rocky start but soon settled into married life and had two baby girls. Alan became a pastor in the church where his family had been members for years. Then, when Lisa had an affair, the heartache and the tension was very public.

Story
Being a genuine disciple of Christ flows out of a relationship with him. It's about experiencing God's grace, not earning his love through performance. A real relationship with Jesus Christ will produce a follower whose life looks progressively more like his life. Romans 12 provides a relational profile of an authentic disciple: someone who is surrendered to God, separate from the world's values, sober in self-assessment, serving in love, and supernaturally responsive to evil with good.

From an early age, Alex Seeley was told she was an accident, but she also carried the weight of feeling stupid. Labels like these, sometimes spoken over us by well-meaning people, can cause us to believe lies about ourselves that make us question why we were born and what our purpose on earth could be. Yet, according to Psalm 139, God designed us in his image, with a unique DNA and amazing characteristics! We are loved and created for a purpose that only we can fulfill.

Story
Imagine a life in which we literally believe God and take him at his word, one in which we let the trials and tribulations that hit us roll off our backs. We look at those trials as a “life college” and learn everything we can through them. We get better, not bitter. When relationships fail, instead of looking at them as our personal failures, we believe rejection is God’s protection and that he wanted the people out of our lives. The points in this book are all about perception shifts - learning how to take the bad and shift it for our good.

Caleb Kalenbach is the Lead Pastor at Discovery Church in Simi Valley, CA. Raised in the LGBT community, he was exposed to how some Christians treated the LGBT community, and grew to hate Christians. In high school, he joined a Bible study to disprove the Bible, but ended up following Jesus instead. Later, his parents followed Jesus, too. This is the subject of his first book, Messy Grace - holding on to the truth of God's Word while being filled with grace.

As a teenager and young man, Justin Lee felt deeply torn. Nicknamed "God Boy" by his peers, he knew that he was called to a life in the evangelical Christian ministry. But Lee harbored a secret: He also knew that he was gay. In this groundbreaking book, Lee recalls the events - his coming out to his parents, his experiences with the "ex-gay" movement, and his in-depth study of the Bible - that led him, eventually, to self-acceptance. But more than just a memoir, Torn provides insightful, practical guidance for all committed Christians who wonder how to relate to gay friends or family members - or who struggle with their own sexuality.
