About this listen

It's a steamy September, and business is brisk at Perkatory, the hottest coffee shop in Devil's Beach, Florida. Much of the clientele pours in from Dante's Inferno, the hot yoga studio next door. But the bright, sunny Gulf Coast days turn decidedly dark roast when the body of the studio's owner turns up in a nearby swamp.

Between running Perkatory and training Stanley, her golden Shih Tzu puppy, reporter-turned-barista Lana Lewis is too busy to go sleuthing. But when the editor of the local paper asks her to write about the murder, Lana's dreams of getting back into journalism start to percolate.

Lana discovers that the yogi has a nefarious past and her share of mug shots, so grinding her way through the suspect list is a large task. She learns that the victim was fatally beaned by an SUV before she was dumped in the swamp. But was the killer one of her students? An envious yoga teacher? Or a local photographer who seems to know too much? Hunting the caf-fiend who killed the yogi puts Lana and Chief Noah's relationship - and Lana's life - in very hot coffee.

But no one tells Lana Lewis what to do.

I needed this light but not silly cozy. Lana is putting her skills as an investigative journalist to good use reporting on a missing person/murder while navigating the obstacle course of a relationship with the Chief of Police. What could go wrong?

FUN READ

The story is cute. I didn’t live the narration. It’s not the voice I envisioned for the protagonist but presumably the author had some input so I guess it’s the voice she intended. The attempts at the voices of other characters were also a bit off putting. I did get somewhat used to it all and finished the story.

Like the books better

Enjoyable sequel with lots of twists, turns, and guessing who did it. I thought I had the villain pegged but that twist at the end was perfect. Though I thought maybe the title had to do with the murder and was just a subplot. Though the consistent "Blurghs" by the MC got old, hence my rating. looking forward to book 3.

Yoga Gone Foul

A combination of the written words and the narrator often made the lead seem like a silly 16 year old with her first crush rather than a 30 year old divorced woman. She is an inquisitive, fearless part time reporter and the silliness of her thoughts and actions about a possible dating partner just don’t jive.

Cute little cozy mystery, but…
