About this listen
Surviving a plane crash wasn’t easy, but surviving the apocalypse will be nearly impossible. Nigel Fletcher finds himself stranded on a deserted island with nothing but his journal and the clothes on his back. Not only must he locate food, water, and shelter to survive, but Nigel will also have to combat wave after wave of savage monsters intent on ridding the world of humanity.
Clearing these waves grows progressively harder as each week brings additional monsters, new mutations, and behind them all, a living terror with an insatiable appetite for human flesh. To have even the slightest chance of surviving, Nigel will need to build up his island base to perfection with what limited resources he has available. Crafting weapons, taming beasts, erecting towers.... It will take an enormous amount of grit and determination to transform this deserted island into one of humanity’s last bastions of hope. Will it be enough?

Fight, survive, adapt, and rely only on yourself. That is Derek’s creed and what's got him through the System Integration on Earth. Everything changed when the System came. Cute bunnies and beautiful butterflies became savage killing machines. Then the Invaders arrived with a single goal: to obtain ownership of this new habitable planet. War has raged ever since. None of this mattered much to Derek, aside from making living a little more perilous.

Story
Ashlock wakes in the courtyard of a demonic sect... as a tree. A tree that eats people. An odd start to a new life. Almost as strange as the humans flying through the skies on flaming swords and challenging the heavens. After all, this is a world where humans could chase the goal of immortality through the art of cultivation. But Ashlock is merely a sapling in a desolate courtyard, left alone with his thoughts and unable to speak to those passing him by. Unless he does something about it.

Story
Last I remember I was saving my high school crush from the path of an oncoming truck. Now I'm a skin-and-bones weakling wearing nothing but my hospital gown. Oh yeah, the world is also full of monsters, and I'm the only human left. It turns out a godlike System evacuated humanity but decided to leave the vegetable in the bed. I could crawl into a corner and wait to get eaten by a kobold, but after years of being asleep, I have a new appreciation for feeling alive. I'll have to find the tenacity to survive, the courage to fight, and the strength to face some dark truths about myself.

Story
Carl was a regular construction foreman. Not the worst, not the best, and definitely not the thinnest. Even so, he didn't deserve that heart attack! He really didn't deserve being reborn into a magic-filled, dog-eat-dog world as a dragon. To be fair, it’s nice to be at the top of the food chain. Now Carl just needs to learn how magic works, which monsters are safe to eat, and why his hoard is so important to him. Dealing with everything changing is hard enough, but he has enemy dragons incoming, hostile environments, and foes constantly trying to get bragging rights by taking down a dragon.

This was an enjoyable listen. It was a great story with a nice pace to the action. And a HUGE cliff hanger at the end. Argh! Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Let me be honest
I won a promo code from Facebook and just finish the story. Here’s what I thought.
There are some interesting ideas here. The sacrificing alters and bubbles, However I personally struggled with accepting them in a “real life” setting.
I like the idea of using the journal as a premise for the story, but there are moments where events that happened are addressed as taken place and things to be done, then there are parts that are well written, but the prospective seems to change to following the action as it is happening. That leads to a bit of disconnect.
Overall, I enjoyed the story,

I Totally Enjoyed This
I describe this book as FUN! Great MC and Sam Arenson is the perfect narrator. He captured the energy of the characters exceptionally well.
Cody Whitfil has created an exciting story line and I can't wait to see how this series continues.

Cool defense style LITRPG
Pros: Overall, the book was well written. I enjoyed the writing style and the narration was excellent. I also loved the premise of the defense style LITRPG. It was just a very easy book to listen to and kept my interest.
Cons: only a few things I struggled with was that all the creatures were the same species with some mutations. I felt like it needed a bit more variety since the main character was already stuck on an island with not much else. Also, the game building was a bit slow, he only starts getting access to a shop and more of the classic LITRPG abilities very close to the end of the first book.
Overall: a good story and I think that it leaves a good foundation for the next book in the series.

Fun tower defense-centered book
The tower defense concept works really well. The constant attacks leads to a story centered around town building which is fun. The characters are interesting, too. I didn’t love the cliffhanger at the end though. The narration was done very well.
