About this listen

#1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts presents a novel of redemption and suspense, as a woman haunted by the unsolved murder of her childhood friend returns to her small South Carolina hometown....

Tory Bodeen grew up in a run-down house where her father ruled with an iron fist and a leather belt - and where her dreams and talents had no room to flourish. Her one escape was her neighbor Hope, who lived in the big house just a short skip away, and whose friendship allowed Tory to be something she wasn’t allowed to be at home: a child.

Then Hope was brutally murdered, and everything fell apart.

Now, as she returns to Progress with plans to settle in and open a stylish home-design shop, Tory is determined to find a measure of peace and free herself from the haunting visions of the past. As she forges a new bond with Cade Lavelle - Hope’s older brother and the heir to the family fortune - she isn’t sure whether the tragic loss they share will unite them or drive them apart. But she is willing to open her heart, just a little, and try.

But living so close to those unhappy memories will be more difficult and frightening than Tory could ever have expected. Because Hope’s murderer is nearby as well....

“Roberts may have achieved her personal best in this tense Southern Gothic. As atmospheric and unsettling as a Tennessee Williams play.... This is romantic drama at its best.” - Publishers Weekly (starred review)

Okay, Okay....so a lot of people really disliked Dean Robertson's narration of Carolina Moon. I absolutely loved it. Robertson is an old-fashioned reader, a storyteller. She doesn't act parts, doesn't change her voice and doesn't tell you what to think. She gets out of the way of the story and lets it flow in her honey-southern voice.

It's not a great story. It's early Nora Roberts- you can see everything-even the red herrings- coming a mile away. But it's Nora Roberts, a master of sustaining both the story and your interest. It's a great pairing- like pizza and a really good Cote du Rhone, Robertson's reading style made this listen a memorable experience.

Narration elevates the experience

was a great story but

I love Nora! No one tells a story as well, but this narrator is awful. Terrible accent, nearly monotone and no differentiation between characters. It's very difficult to follow the dialogue.

Terrible Narrator

The story was great. The narrator was all wrong! Who ever approved this casting should be fired. Dean Robertson voice is too old for the main character. Not to mention very bland and unmoving. It was a real struggle to listen even thou the story was entertaining. Since this is an audio book it’s a complete fail. Needs recast.

I have listened to this story so many times I can play it in my head without the recording. I love the characters, especially Faith. I always like it when Nora includes a bit of magic and mystery with a good bit of suspense and surprise to the love stories between characters. Hers are always a satisfying ending.

Loved it through the years

storyline was good, I didn't guess who did it until it was laid out. however the narrator was too monotoned, most voices all sounded the same making it difficult to follow along at times.

well played Ms. Roberts

I really liked the main character in the book. She didn't have all the answers. She was relatable. I liked the voice of the reader. I got confused between "Wade and Cade's" characters. That's on the author for choosing similar names but also more difficult when read by one person. Overall I'm glad I listened to the book.

Good reading, likeable story

I really enjoyed the book and most of all the person reading the book. The narrator kept the same voice and did not change in to different voices. This is something I really dislike in other narrators.

Great performance !
