About this listen

In this spirited romance, New York Times best-selling author Heather Graham draws on her love for Florida and its rich history. This lusty tale of intrigue and passion, set in the tumultuous years of the Indian Wars, shimmers with the colorful energy of Florida’s vibrant landscapes.

Teela Warren is a southern beauty, raised in the gentility of a vast plantation. When she first travels to the Florida Territory, she is overwhelmed by its exotic wilderness. And when she encounters half-breed James McKenzie there, her desires are aroused in ways that are as strange and wonderful as the untamed countryside. But their love is perilous, and war threatens to put them on opposite sides of the bloodshed.

Captive has won the praise of romance readers nationwide with its provocative tale of love and war. Bringing to life the Europeans and Native Americans who struggled to control Florida during the turbulent first half of the nineteenth century, Heather Graham has captured all the perils and excitement of one of the fiercest struggles for territory in our history.

Amazing story

While the history portrayed is enlightening, brutal, and helpful in understanding the settlement of Florida, the story went on too long.
Teela is a miserable "heroine". She is abrasive, mercurial, irrational, reactive, instead of reflective, and overall very annoying.
The narrator has done a better job in other books, and it was hard finishing this book. Skipped some chapters. If you can stand the tedium of the "heroine" constantly testing the patience of the hero then you will enjoy this.

Much Too Long

I love the historical accuracy; wonderful book! Excellent author; narration was superb! Looking forward to rest of the series! I hope Audible comes through with the other books (Florida Civil War); starting with 1st book of the series, "Runaway," #3 "Rebel," #4 "Surrender," #5 "Glory" and #6 "Triumph!"

I've listened to over 400 books, my 1st review!

What made the experience of listening to Captive the most enjoyable?

The male reader had a wonderful voice and was capable or reading the female parts as well. it is hard to find such a great male reader.

I don't care much for lengthy details describing things or redundent talk. This story had neither. I enjoyed it completely

Who was your favorite character and why?

James

Bold, captivating, strong willed, a character controled by his morals and values. Disciplined yet full of desires controlled by his passions.

Which scene was your favorite?

When he saved her life and they spent a week together in the wilderness... The whole book is my favorite. Each area brought forth something new

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Just focused.. I would get on a highway just to listen longer

Love/Hate Passion

I am half way though and thinking of giving up...This is my second book by Heather Graham and it seems like she continuously favours Love/Hate and a lot of anger plot.
There is a lot of angry animalistic “lovemaking” , H and h continually arguing and if they do have a conversation it is him repeatedly telling her to get out and go away or tries to marry her to someone else! Not very romantic and definitely not my kind of romance.
On the positive side, narration is superb!

Too much conflict....it’s irritating.

As a transplanted Floridian, I found this very interesting. It wetted my appetite for more history of Florida.

Good one

This is my least favorite Heather Graham thus far. There is a good story of prejudices and the hope of overcoming those prejudices in an effort for us to live together as human beings. I couldn't read the whole book but jumped through to read the last 3 chapters so there was enough of a hook that I wanted to know the ending. :)

So Very Slow
