About this listen

What happens when a nineteen-year-old boy leaves home and heads into the jungles to evangelize a murderous tribe of South American Indians?

For Bruce Olson, it meant capture, disease, terror, loneliness, and torture. But what he discovered through trial and error has revolutionized the world of missions.

Bruchko, which has sold more than 300,000 copies worldwide, has been called "more fantastic and harrowing than anything Hollywood could concoct." Having lived with the Motilone Indians since1961, Olson has won the friendship of four presidents of Colombia and made appearances before the United Nations because of his efforts. Bruchko includes the story of Olson's1988 kidnapping by communist guerrillas and the nine months of captivity that followed. This revised version of his story is an amazing reminder that simple faith in Christ can make anything possible.

This is an amazing story of how God can use one person to impact a nation. He had his own connection with God and chose to listen to Him instead of listening to a missionary group who had lost sight of their true mission.
Although I know I am not called to travel deep into the jungles of any country to bring the message of Jesus, I am inspired to seek God in how He wants to use me to bring His love, compassion, and mercy to the lost.

I highly recommend this book!!!

I totally loved this book. It's Such a beautiful example of the power of the Gospel to transform lives, and also to lead a life. It's possible for the rest if us too.

Not sure how I haven't heard of Bruce Olson and his work before, but I was very impressed. The introduction part of this book made me almost quit listening, and the beginning of his story was slow (but part of his story that needed to be told). But once he gets to South America, I found it hard to stop listening. Truly incredible story!!!

I applaud his approach to bringing Christ to another culture. He did not try to change their culture or consider his superior. First he learned their culture and how to live as one of them (this took years) and then shared Jesus in a way they could understand and relate. I wish more missionaries had followed this approach, instead of mixing Christianity with colonization.

The courage and candid testimony of Mr Olson demonstrates a devotion to a strange and dangerous people that can only be of God. Many times during his journey it would have been much easier to give up. But Bruchko dedicated himself to carry on and carry out the mission that he was to share Jesus to the Motilone tribe. This personal story will have you do a gut check of your relationship with Jesus. Thank you for sharing this story with us.

What a remarkable story! I was greatly encouraged and loved seeing how God took a naive 19 year old and used him in such a powerful way. Reminds me of some of the young heros of the Bible. He fully trusted God in all the dangers and even when he was frustrated, God taught him every step of the way.

Love this!

What an incredible story. Once it got started it was hard to take breaks in listening. The story keeps you pulled in wanting to know what will happen next. The reader is OK. His voice is sort of flat but once the story picks up you don't even notice it anymore, besides he does a fabulous job pronouncing the difficult words and names. I highly recommend this book.

Excellent book! Must read
