The bright colors of the fall foliage become dark when mysterious casualties occur on a mountain road deep in the mountains of upstate New York. An experienced highway engineer must be called in to investigate. When his objective-minded brother decides to help, it becomes clear that this woodland road is hiding many secrets. Is the design of the road to blame? Or is it a more sinister entity causing havoc? The answers are disturbing and shockingly horrific.

I was provided this audible book in exchange for a fair and honest review. I recommend this book as I found it to be a well developed novella. As someone who loves ghost and horror stories, it kept my interest. I was impressed with the side road explanations that the author provided in telling the story. It added depth and interest. The narrator didn’t change tone and inflection much which took away from the telling of the story, in my assessment. Someone else may find otherwise. Some of the sentences seemed they could have been consolidated into more complex ones and in one chapter the story went from third person to first person for a sentence or two them back to third person. I was like, “wait! What?” It appears the author may have originally written in the first person then changed it to third person and simply forgot to edit a couple of sentences. It was a blip but did not take away from the overall story. I enjoyed the author’s use of varied descriptions throughout. I would definitely recommend this novella and look forward to reading more from this author.
