About this listen

The Devil craves beauty. Even in himself.

The vampire will make magnificent promises and I will say yes.

The man I give my heart to will steal my soul.

Syrsee

My grandma gave me these words of wisdom just before she died. Then she told me to run. Because if the old witch is dying, then he needs a new one. And that’s me. This is my curse. I am the vampire’s power. I am the vampire’s strength. I am the vampire’s food. And he is very, very hungry.

Ryet

I hate him, but I crave him. I want to be rid of him, but I also want him next to me. I want to feed on him and sometimes I dream about him feeding on me. It feels like a trick. Like abuse. Like Stockholm syndrome. But it’s not. It’s just...the blood. I am the vampire’s scion. I am the vampire’s slave. I am the vampire’s future. And he will never let me go.

Paul

I am the vampire. Once you make a deal with me, it’s done. There’s no going back. Once I bite my lip—once I bare my teeth—once I let it drip—he’s mine. She’s mine. And together we are blood lovers.

Blood Lovers is a dark, seductive journey into a world where the blood runs black, the dreams are purple, and the demons aren’t just dangerous, they’re beautiful.

4.25 Stars

I went into this story not really knowing what to expect and ended up being pleasantly surprised. I actually listened to this completely on audio and the narration was done by the trio of Ava Erickson, ,
CJ Mission, and Finn Cassidy. I liked that there were three separate and specific voices for the three MC's. There is an author's note - from Ms. Huss herself at the end of the book and in that she talks about how this story was written "from the end of the beginning". At first, I didn't really get what she meant, but once I actually thought about it, that made perfect sense.

Why? Well, we are introduced to all of our MC's kind of in the middle of each of their own stories. We meet Syrsee - our FMC Blood Witch - when she is already 28 years old. We learn that she has been hiding from a certain "vampire" and his "hunter." The "Guild," a coven of good witches, has been using their magic and resources to help keep her hidden. (There's also a back story with her grandmother, but basically she's been hidden by her grandma's magic and the Guild's resources).

We also meet Paul - one of our MMC's - and we learn that he is the defacto "Head" vampire in the America's. He was kicked out of Europe and banished to America several hundred years ago and he took 2 others with him when they fled - Josep and Lucia. But, we don't know WHY he was banished or much about what has been going on in his life other than the very few details that are parsed out as the story unfolds.

And then the last main character is Ryet. I felt like we got the most back story from his character out of any of the other ones. Basically, Paul chose him to be his "scion" 65 years ago and orchestrated his acceptance after the death of Ryek's wife and three children. Even though we were given the basic details of how and why Ryek chose to accept the offer that Paul gave him - we REALLY did not know the level of deception and forethought that had gone into all of this. We learn as the story gets to its end, the depths of the deception, and the levels of planning that had been going on for hundreds of years. We learn that Ryek and Syrsee really never had a chance.....but I digress...

So yes, the story starts at the end of the beginning and now, we are left with many, many questions about the how's and the whys that got everyone to this place. Did I have questions at the end of this book? Heck yeah. Quite a few. Am I interested enough to keep going? Absolutely.

We have a narcissistic, sociopathic power hungry vampire on the verge of actually succeeding in something that he has been attempting for hundreds of years. We have two other people - can't really call them innocent bystanders, but we can call them bystanders. These two people are incredibly important to Paul's plans of world domination, but they are beginning to learn information that has been withheld from them in the past. Each of them has spent a lifetime thinking that they are evil and irredeemable, but are learning that maybe, just maybe, there might be another way.

Am I interested? Again, I say...heck yeah :)

Great beginning.....

First let me say that I love JA Huss, she’s my favorite author but this book did not do it for me. She usually doesn’t write almost comical stories and that’s what this felt like for me. I rolled my eyes several times and fell asleep twice ( that has NEVER happened to me with one of her books before). I didn’t feel the connection of the characters and didn’t really care if any of them lived or died. The main female character was weak and somewhat stupid. I mean seriously, she can’t walk away from the hunter after one night? She’s worried she may have gotten pregnant since no birth control with a demon that’s she’s tried to avoid her whole life? She had no power ) only black blood to feed the vampire? And the vamps only need one of two drops from another for months at a time? What’s worse is that he burned Rhett’s family alive and he’s haunted by this but the lust for the vamps blood makes him let it go?? I don’t know?? And female main characters only friend betrayed her in the worst way and she just lets it go. She had no back bone, pretty much does whatever she’s told ( I hate that! ) Her grandma betrayed her, her friend, the organization she grew up in all betrayed her etc.. I know the book was about betrayal but it didn’t leave me wanting more like her other books.
Sorry.

Not my fav!

Every bit of this book was more than I bargained for in the best possible way. If you’re a fan of Huss’s other work, just read it. It was really great

Riveting story that is perfectly twisted

I have always loved vampire stories. They are horror stories that are not slasher movies or stories. This book takes a unique approach to the life of vampires. I heard there are more books in this series. I simply cannot wait. The narrators did a phenomenal job. I have heard Ava Erickson in other stories. That puts a smile on my face because she can do so much with her voice and it’s never overdone. The other two narrators I am unfamiliar with. All the narrators need a standing ovation. They made the book sound like a movie in my head. That sounds ridiculous I am sure. The vampire named Paul was smug , patronizing, and I would have read him that way. However hearing the narrator be so condescending in such a lovely way,my brain would have never pulled that off. I know this is another win for this author.👏👏👏👏👏🥇.

Excellent Vampire Story

I am a huge fan of JA Huss’s writing and decided to listen to this book. Wow! Immediately, I am taken into a different world of vampires and witches etc. It was beautiful, elegant and complex. From the beginning, I was drawn to Syrsee, Paul and Ryet. Three main characters that depend on each other and you can tell who truly is evil and who has fallen under certain circumstances…The end was beautiful which led to more questions, more wants from the brilliant JA Huss as to what will come in book 2. As always, EOBS is what I look forward to and learn from her how she started this epic world of her world of vampires and witches..

The start of JA Huss’s vision of vampire paranormal

This is a great PNR book…. And I’m not a true PNR fan.. but I AM a JA Huss fan!

I was caught from the very beginning of this book.. Paul.. the vampire you love to hate, is the first we meet…. He’s cool and beautiful… and so freaking cocky…. I did not like him. Period. But….. as the story goes on and we meet Ryder and Cercie…. He grows on you…. But will that last! ?

Vampires are different than we’ve read about…. At least these are… and you’re gonna want to know them! This story is going to make you want more. There’s so much more to their stories! Don’t forget to listen to the “End of Book Sh*#”!!! It’s very informative! I love this author.. JA Huss.. thank you for sharing your talent!

Bring on book 2!!!
