About this listen
Come on in. Kick off your shoes. You'll stay forever.
When Claire finds herself drawn to Blackwood Manor, an abandoned Civil War plantation she just has to have it. One little problem—Blackwood Manor has a dark, torrid history of hauntings, accidents, and no owner has lived on site for longer than two years in more than a century. Claire doesn't care about any of that.
Upon moving in, Claire's obsession grows as she uncovers a mystery dating back to the Civil War, and she is determined to get to the bottom of it with the help of a few spirits along the way.
Blackwood Manor is full of mysteries, spirits, and a story of forbidden love that promises a thrilling ride!
It's just a house. Or is it?

Spooky and intriguing with a sprinkle of frustration.
It took me a few tries to get into this book, but as I received this credit on exchange for an honest review I pushed through. After the first few chapters I was hooked.
I'll get the negatives out of the way first:
The behavior or the main characters weren't believable at times. I refuse to believe that Claire could be presented woth so mich evidence and still excuse it away. I also refuse to believe that Emma would continue to forgive Claire's ignorance in light of her terror and the harm the house causes. The ending was depressing too. Constructive criticism (I hope) about the narration: sometimes the narration sounded a little too intense and earnest when the scene was mundane. It took me a while to get used to that in the beginning.
Pros: The concept had me hooked. Haunted manor house? Yes please! Flashbacks from the perspective of the ghosts? Heck yeah! Detailed history about the tragic events on the property? Give me more! The narrator has a very bright, clear voice that was easy to understand. When. the events got intense her voice was perfect at communicating the urgency of the moment.
Overall it was a good book and I would give the second one a shot because of the cliffhanger.

Whew … what a ride!!!
This is not usually my preferred genre…I don’t like to be scared BUT it was a very unique and creative story. It was compelling enough that I look forward to the next book in the series…I would also HIGHLY recommend the narrator, she did an excellent job creating tension when necessary and empathy in other parts … she draws the reader into the story and she absolutely made the book come to life…. Well done!

Recommended for horror & historical fiction lovers
I was drawn to Blackwood Manor by its intriguing premise—a haunted Civil War plantation with mysteries and forbidden love sounded like a thrilling combination. The book has moments of atmospheric tension and some unique twists that kept me interested, especially in how the historical elements tied into the storyline.
However, I found the story and characters to be a bit over the top at times, which made it challenging to stay fully immersed.
That said, I can see how fans of supernatural mysteries might enjoy this book, especially if they appreciate a blend of history and hauntings. It wasn’t quite my cup of tea, but I respect the creativity and effort that went into crafting the story.

Couldn’t Stop Listening
This book took me by surprise and captured my attention for hours at a time. The plot and characters were complex and well bodied. The narration was good and you got a real feel for the different characters. I definitely cannot wait to hear book 2.
