About this listen
FBI agent Matthew Roarke has been on leave, and in seclusion, since the capture of mass killer Cara Lindstrom - the victim turned avenger who preys on predators. Torn between devotion to the law and a powerful attraction to Cara and her lethal brand of justice, Roarke has retreated from both to search his soul. But Cara's escape from custody and a police detective's cryptic challenge soon draw him out of exile - into the California desert and deep into Cara's past - to probe an unsolved murder that could be the key to her long and deadly career.
Following young Cara's trail, Roarke uncovers a horrifying attack on a schoolgirl, the shocking suicide of another, and a human monster stalking Cara's old high school. Separated by sixteen years, crossing paths in the present and past, Roarke and fourteen-year-old Cara must race to find and stop the sadistic sexual predator before more young women are brutalized.

Story
For dinosaurs, it was a big rock. For humans: Coronal Mass Ejection (CME). When the Earth is hit by the greatest CME in recorded history (several times larger than the Carrington Event of 1859), the combined societies of the planet's most developed nations struggle to adapt to a life thrust back into the Dark Ages. In the United States, the military scrambles to speed the nation's recovery on multiple fronts including putting down riots, establishing relief camps, delivering medical aid, and bringing communication and travel back on line. Just as a real foothold is established in retaking the skies (utilizing existing commercial aircraft supplemented by military resources and ground control systems), a mysterious virus takes hold of the population, spreading globally over the very flight routes that the survivors fought so hard to rebuild.

My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. Great read and great narration..
I wasn’t all that thrilled with the last book in this series, Cold Moon, but this one was my favorite so far. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about the chapters being first about Cara then the next one about Roarke through the entire book but it turned out great. The Cara chapters were about the 14 year old girl and when she started killing, who she killed and why. Roarke’s chapters were him finding out little by little about what Cara’s friends, Ivy and Laura, who both died, and what happened. And his hunt for two partners who were rapists, and had been for 16 years.
This was a really great addition to the series. I’m moving on to book 5, Hunger Moon, supposedly the final book but you never know.
No sex and the F-bomb was used 24 times.
As to the narrator: R.C. Bray’s gotten better with each book. I enjoyed his voices, both male and female, and his emotions when he read.

Best to listen to this series in order written
The Huntress/FBI Thrillers series takes on the issue of child rape in a rather unique way. The protagonists are Cara Lindstrom, a victim who becomes an avenger, and FBI Agent Matthew Roarke. Bitter Moon is the 4th novel n the series. The novels in this series are stand alone in that none end in a cliffhanger situation, but each provides background important to the next one. Narrator RC Bray does a superb job which is the norm for him. I VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND the 4 novels in this dark suspense series; however, I do not recommend this author's other novels.

Words cannot say how wonderful this book is.
Any additional comments?
My husband and I have been waiting a long time for this to come out. I do not know how we missed it sure glad we looked again. What makes this a great read is not only the narrator which is wonderful but we get to see Cara as a young teen. I think this really bring the story home, yes we heard about it in other books but this goes in to detail that really hits home and pulls you in making you feel even more for a young girl that turned into a serial killer. It is very hard not to like Cara and really feel her pain, in the first book it took a little time but after that I felt she was like my own daughter. There really are monsters out there and she is taking them out one at a time, she is my hero, someone we shouldn’t look up to but we have to. I am sure you will feel the same after you read her story of a killer that killed her family and all the evil people out there that tried their best to either kill her, abuse her or kill and abuse others.
Roarke is one of a kind he is torn between right and wrong, it is hard to feel that Cara is wrong when the ones she hunts are really the bad ones doing terrible wrong things. They say two wrongs don’t make a right but it is really hard to use that logic with these people. If Cara is the dark side Roarke would be the white side. He is leaning more to the dark side that is why he took a break from things where things not black and white for him anymore. It is hard to him to hunt down Cara again to bring her in for justice when really she is doing justice for all those that can’t help their selves and has been doing it from a very young age. I loved how he took on this new story finding clues from a cold case that Cara may have thought she took care of. He need justice for those poor girls and he works hard to find it.
As always Mr. Bray’s narration is outstanding. I fell in love with his narration from the very first blue moon story. He really hits the emotions right on the money giving you a wonderful emotional listen pulling you in letting your mind take over creating a picture of each scene that is very vivid in your mind. His character voices really show emotion pulling the listen in with a compelling listen and a powerful voice that is clear, deep that it really pulls you. It is hard to pick up one of the Moon audio’s and not feel the powerful emotion he bring to it. There was no background noise the music at the first goes very well with the story it gets you prepared for what is about to happen. There are no repeats of works just a crisp, clean, clear audio that delivers a wonderful story of evil, power, killing, victims, heroes and a monster that lives right in your town. He male voices are just as wonderful as his female ones. You always know who is talking and just what they are feeling. I have no trouble feeling the evil that is around these characters as he paints a wonderful picture in your mind that you have no trouble picturing. This is one of my favorite series along with one of my favorite narrators.
The author really knows how to pull you in giving you a compelling listen leaving your mouth hung open as danger comes near. Just when you think you have worked out who, what and where she changes that on you leaving you to start over. I really understood Roarke how he was driven but yet torn between right and wrong. I understood why he needed a break but at the same time why he needed more answers. As he pulls you in your heart goes out to so many, at times you wish you could be Cara taking away her pain but mostly taking out the evil that is so alive all around.
I really enjoyed seeing Cara as a young girl who not only took care of herself but others. I really liked hearing more about her foster homes and the friends she made and those she didn’t like. The author goes in wonderful detail about how she learned how to drive at a young age, the closeness she had with a foster child. The victims of other young children, the killing of those that hurt those children How Roarke worked out who the monsters where and how he got them justice after so many years. It really is a powerful story with powerful meaning and wonderful characters that really breaks your heart. I wish with everything that was in me that I could pull these characters out of this story. For me the characters became real, I felt their pain, their fear and their heart break. I found myself cheering when another one was taken out. I found myself talking to the characters as well as beep beeping a few. I really got into this story from start to finish. This can be read as a standalone but really to get the full effect you need to read the series. I really have a hard time waiting for the next story to come out. This is one author that pulls all the stops. She has no trouble pulling the reader in giving you a highly entertaining story you can’t put down.

Loved all 4 books
All of these books follow the ongoing story and this last book is interesting in that it takes you back to the beginning and shows you how Cara came to the place she is now. At the same time FBI agent Matthew Roarke also goes back to where she began in the 'system' and her life is formed and brings all the facts together. I love that the ending was realistic for the story. I run hot and cold on these types of stories but was very pleased with every book in this series and listened at every chance. R.C. Bray was perfect for the reading! I will definitely look for new stories from this author in the future.

Going back to the beginning
I love this series I was hoping for a continuation of the first three books but I hope going back to the beginning only means we have to know this information because the series will contains. Saying all that to say these books are not for the faint of heart. They are filled with IT and I believe IT is real because I believe it Jesus and our Lord and they say demons exist. I cried and prayed and shouted and stomped my feet. Don't start here if u are thinking of reading this book make sure you read the other three and read them in order!

Captivating Series!
The story holds your interest from the first chapter to the end. More than just a "who done it" mystery, the story takes you into the darkest recesses of evil and poses the question: Can evil be named and destroyed? And, in naming it, must you enter Its darkness in order to destroy it? Excellent writing that captivates us and questions our thoughts about right and wrong.
Excellent narration by R.C. Bray.
