About this listen

Environmental planning involved in protection of environment while promoting the conservation of biodiversity and sustainable use of ecological services and natural resources. It is a cooperative approach with the participation of government, communities, landholders, relevant stakeholders and indigenous people. Planning often associated with the evaluation tools such as Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and Kyoto (CDM) project cycle are used to estimate and avoid the impact. Many planning policies remains in words without accounting the fact (the net loss) and the decisions still ignore commutative and regional impacts or biased by political factors. Planning must be ethical, economical, efficient and visionary. The term “Green development” does not mean pollution reduction or conservation alone it also includes energy and resources hidden in discarded materials which need to be recycled, this phenomenon is also applied in restoration of ecological services, resources and biodiversity. Behavioural level changes are needed to avoid resource scarcity, pollution and ecological foot print. Man has a great ability to adapt to ecological and environmental changes but hardly plants and animals, thus, conservation of biodiversity through effective environmental planning is unavoidable in the development sector. Major goals in the conservation planning are managing game species for sustainable yield, conserving threatened species and preserving balanced population of species in their habitats. Though the technology has developed still our planning efforts mostly stick to the local resources alone. Effects of major global environmental issues get more priority compare to the local biodiversity issues during the environmental planning. Expansion of economic activities, deforestation, habitat fragmentation, slash and burn agricultural practices, mono culture, animal cruelty and pouching, impacts of invasive and exotic species, over exploitation of living resources, habitat degradation, effects of global warming and climate change, conflicts with human due to developmental activities, increase of human population and pollution, all have to be minimized with active environmental protection measures, wildlife protection, conservation, propagation and habitat enrichment activities. The proficiency in biodiversity is unavoidable in environmental evaluation process when planning the project, because once we lose a species or a valuable gene we can never get it back.
