About this listen
When a young Apache man is found hanging from a tree on Cat Mountain, Sheriff Jim Weber and FBI agent Larry Parks go on the hunt for the killers and by the time their investigation is over, the idealistic cover is ripped from the little mountain town of Big Lake, revealing old prejudices, resentments, and hatred. In their search for justice, Sheriff Weber and Parks encounter Native American activists, a kinky couple whose passion burns as hot as their tempers, a teenager with excess baggage, and a father and son team of small town bullies, to name just a few. Many of the characters that made the original Big Lake audiobook are back, along with some new ones listeners will remember for a long time.

Story
When an armored car hijacking leaves two men dead, Arizona Sheriff Jim Weber takes the crime personally, because one of the dead men is his brother-in-law. His hunt for the killers leads him into a world of sordid sex, deceit, and violence, with a suspect list that includes jilted women, a family of anti-government survivalists, and the beautiful wife of the richest man in town. With a plot that has more twists and turns than an Arizona mountain road, a cast of characters you won't soon forget.

But when a road construction crew unearths the skeletons of three murder victims, John Lee suddenly finds himself on the trail of a killer who may well have died long before the deputy was even born.

Sober for fourteen years, Hank took pride in his hard-won sobriety and never hesitated to drop whatever he was doing to talk Cody off a ledge. When Cody takes a closer look at the scene of his friend's death, it becomes apparent that foul play is at hand.

He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Story
When Marshall McEwan left his hometown at age 18, he vowed never to return. The trauma that drove him away ultimately spurred him to become one of the most successful journalists in Washington DC. But just as the political chaos in the nation’s capital lifts him to new heights, Marshall is forced to return home in spite of his boyhood vow. His father is dying, his mother is struggling to keep the family newspaper from failing, and the town is in the midst of an economic rebirth that might be built upon crimes that reach into the state capitol - and perhaps even to Washington.

Simple and Entertaining
Good audible book to get away! I listened to it while driving/sitting in traffic for 40 minutes each way. It really took my mind off of work and the traffic. However it is simple enough story line to keep my attention on the road too.

prejudices and injustices
That Cindy is one crazy selfish witch. I love that Archer continues to add greatly to the storyline. I don't know how Weber keeps his sanity with all the cray cray going on. The twisted backstory of tge Moore family ??!! wow! Chapter 21 made me ill and cry at all the senseless violence. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job with voices and expressions.

A welcome change of pace for me, this Arizona tale of a small Sheriff's office is relaxing, interesting, full of back story color, pathos, some trout fishing, locals and tourists. This narrator is excellent. It's not rocket science
but a updated slice of Mayberry with a dash of Criminal Minds.
