About this listen
Best-selling authors David and Leigh Eddings welcome fans back to the time before the Belgariad and the Malloreon series. Join them as they chronicle that fateful conflict between two mortally opposed Destinies, in a monumental war of men and kings and gods.
When the world was young and Gods still walked among their mortal children, a headstrong orphan boy set out to explore the world. Thus began the extraordinary adventures that would mold that youthful vagabond into a man and the man into the finely honed instrument of Prophecy known to all the world as Belgarath the Sorcerer.
Then came the dark day when the Dark God Torak split the world asunder, and the God Aldur and his disciples began their monumental labor to set Destiny aright. Foremost among their number was Belgarath. His ceaseless devotion was foredoomed to cost him that which he held most dear—even as his loyal service would extend through echoing centuries of loss, of struggle, and of ultimate triumph.

Wonderful
I've read all the books in this series many, many years ago. Listening to the story after so many years was really enjoyable. The narrator was wonderful and even though it's pretty long, it didn't feel that long.

Well written and fun
David Eddings doesn’t disappoint, providing a history of events from the perspective and voice of one of his best loved characters. The humor and storytelling skill of Belgarath sings through this book; I especially love his winks to his “readers” throughout. As to the audio version, Cameron Beierle is fairly consistent with voice and character, but some of his mispronunciations jar me out of the story when I come across them

Annually Revistable Masterpiece
This book is an absolute treat, especially if you have gone through both the Belgariad (5 book series) and the Mallorean (5 book series), it enhances the story, by adding depth to the already deep story and also character interactions.
I revisit the series once or twice with every new year, as I always get something new with every listen. - Highly recommend.

The Return of Cameron Beierle!!!
This reader performed all the rest of the series - The Belgariad and The Mallorean, so it’s very nice to have this continuity (the previous reader was TERRIBLE).
Admittedly, this story isn’t among Eddings’ best work, but is a nice transition in the cycle. This, along with Polgara the Sorceress, end right as The Belgariad begins. So this is a fantastic 12 book cycle to fall into and list to over and over.
The only performance issue I have is that the final mixing of the audio removed some of the bass rumble of Beierle’s voice that is present in the other books. It almost sounds as if the character is talking through a tin can. I’m still at the beginning of this readthrough, and because of the lack of bass, it feels like it drags a little?
All that aside, this reading is a vast improvement over the previous reader and a lovely continuation of the 12 book cycle.
If you are a fan of the series, this is a must.
If you haven’t read either The Belgariad or The Mallorean. Go back, and start with Pawn of Prophecy! :) Happy Reading!!

Trip down memory lane!
This was the book that got me into fantasy. The difference with audible is the narrator or “performer.” It took some getting used to be overall he did a great job capturing the feeling of Belgarath and the others. Some of the accents seemed to run together but I didn’t matter too much. I would have given 5 for performance except for the Polgara character, it brought me out of the story a little bit. Also, for me, I was able to follow along because I’ve read the novel. I wouldn’t have been able to keep up with everything otherwise. There is over 7000 years of story here so it’s a lot. So glad I got this though!

Well handled back story to an epic series
I truly enjoyed how the authors created this wonderful back story narrative. We caught a glimpse of the future as well as all of the history that led up to the Belgariad. The other "history" book (Polgara) delivers the finishing polish on the sagas.

Yass
There can’t be enough background story for the Eddings Belgariad universe. I love it I wish there was more.
