About this listen

I wrote this book when I was still freshly wounded from a serious episode of anxiety. As the stress hormones took over me and I literally felt that I was going to die, I saw my whole life pass right in front of my eyes. For a few months, I documented in this book exactly what I saw in my near-death delirium, as I tried to make sense of how my life’s journey had brought me to a full circle moment. This book is in many ways a personal memoir. My episode with anxiety was the very catalyst that pushed me to become a writer in the first place, in my yearning to revisit not only the stressful but also the happy, as well as funny parts of my life: so that I can look back with no regrets, and with a new-found wisdom, being able to laugh back at my difficult times, as well as some of my interesting life choices. Writing Becoming Imperfect began as a personal catharsis, but led me later on to become an advocate for mental health, social justice and climate change – issues that are deeply interconnected. My story is the story of a Gen Xer growing up through 4 decades of breakneck technological disruption. This disruption has already eroded parts of our humanity, and we are now finding ourselves at a critical crossroad where we need to redefine what it means to be human: beyond jobs, careers, smartphones and keeping busy. Our very survival as a species depends on this. As we mindlessly scroll through our screens, we risk skimming through the last chapters of our civilization, without paying attention to the warning signs coming from all around us, including our planet’s own climate system. Tackling the current epidemic of anxiety is fundamental to establishing a healthier relationship with our planet. Sick humans will destroy more, continue to stress-eat their way through nature’s free buffet, and lead to their own eventual extinction. Wherever you may be on the journey of awareness, I hope that this book becomes an open doorway to the rest of your path. Mental Health Psychology Psychology & Mental Health Funny
