 As governments across Australia crack down on distracted driving, AI-powered surveillance cameras capable of detecting non-compliance with mobile phones and seatbelts have been rolled out nationally from 1 July. RMIT University Professor Nirajan Shiwakoti says while the technological progress is commendable, a “holistic approach” is required for recent measures to be fully effective, including targeted resources and outreach to diverse communities.
