  • Summary

  • Send us a text

The worlds most confusingly named but popular acid - Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a natural humectant (a substance used to keep things moist) found in the innermost layer of our skin. It is the OG moisture magnet for the skin!

HA belongs to the extracellular matrix molecules of the skin. When it comes to aesthetics we hear about primary skin layers (epidermis, the dermis) but not the matrix of ECM molecules that lies between cells of these layers. The ECM helps build the skin layers and has an important role in regulating cellular functions.

HA is a naturally-occurring in our skin, hair, eyes, joints and nerves that acts as a cushion to promote collagen, increase moisture, provide elasticity and flexibility, keeping us looking and feeling young!

    Three key functions of HA

    • HA contributes to the proliferation of cells, their movement, and cell-to-cell communication. It facilitates the transfer of nutrients from the bloodstream to the cells.
    • It has anti-inflammatory properties and promotes wound healing.
    • It increases the water binding capacity of the extracellular matrix of the skin and muscles.
