About this listen
#1 - THE FIRST IN THE CODY DAKOTA MOUNTAIN MAN SERIES TITLED A MOUNTAIN MAN ADVENTURE BY D. M. HAGGARD!
This story is about the life and trials of mountain men who lived in the most hostile and difficult environments imaginable in Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico. Their lives were focused on trapping, hunting, and fishing for survival as well as for profit. Anything that lived in the woods with them were either prey or predator. The latter animals often attacked them and tried to kill them. Most trapping was done during the fall and early spring when the furs were the healthiest and thickest, but the mountain men continued to trap and hunt during the winter, when weather conditions were brutal. Frostbite, hypothermia, illness, and malnutrition were just the start of their problems. Local Indian tribes, who also hunted and trapped for survival, were not happy to have competition in their hunting and trapping grounds, and they made their anger known. Mountain men also served as military guides and scouts through hostile terrain. The perils they faced, and the actions they took, were often fierce, vicious, and deadly. Based in part on significant players in history, the Cody Dakota – Mountain Man series of books is this author’s tribute to the courage and resourcefulness of these dwellers in the wild American West during the early and mid-nineteenth century.
