This is either a short book or a novella perhaps. I don't think it would have been improved by greater length. The basic premise is compelling: a wife trying to handle an increasingly abusive marriage, and make sense out of what had happened that it has devolved to this point.

Nancy, married to Tom, is becoming more and more aware of how her marriage is not what she had expected as she looks inward to her own thoughts, expectations and memories as well as comparing her marriage to others she sees. Her husband is verbally and physically abusive. The story reveals her gradual awareness of her dilemma and her distress at her situation.

This could have been a book that dealt compassionately with a serious social issue (and I suppose it sort of does). But it is badly harmed by rather stilted language in the writing, and amateurish narration. Can't imagine why I bought it. I think it is part of a different genre of books than I typically read/expected--romance novels--(my mistake in selecting it) and there will probably be many who will like it much better than I did if they enjoy that sort of book.
