About this listen
This book contains proven steps and strategies on how to start your own basic aquaponic system in your home.
An aquaponic system basically involves a troika of organisms that live in harmony and support each other. You have the fish that create the ammonia, the bacteria that feed on this ammonia and turn it into nitrites, and the plants which benefit from the nutritious water and can also be converted into fish food and a source of ammonia. You are basically creating a balance and self-sustaining eco-system that can produce everything you and your family need to have a nutritious and balanced diet.
This book offers all the information you, as a beginner, would need in designing your system, choosing the specifications and making sure you get to develop a healthy and thriving environment for all the organisms in your aquaponic system.
This book also offers simple descriptions and definitions of all the working parts and materials that you need for your system as well as customizable fittings you might want to add. With this knowledge, you will be able to design your system according to the available space, budget and climate conditions of your locality, and of course, according to your needs.
Designing and growing a healthy aquaponic system is invaluable in helping you develop food security at low cost. Because it can be developed into a self-sustaining eco-system, you will be able to get maximum output for less input, as well as have the satisfaction of growing your own food. You will also have the added assurance that everything on your plate is organic and healthy.

Story
Although modern aquaponics is still fairly new, it was used in ancient times. Some of the first examples are thought to be islands where plants raised with water and other materials from the Chinampa canals. The islands, known as Chinampas, were mainly stationary, but some were movable. Also, rice was raised in Thailand and China in paddies, which also contained fish. Other Far Eastern countries also raised fish - swamp eels, regular and crucian carp, and Oriental loach - in rice paddies.

Story
Fruits and vegetables can be pricey, especially if they’re out of season. And, of course, they can be even more expensive if you choose to go organic. You could always plant your own garden, but, maybe, you don’t have enough space outside or, maybe, you live in a colder climate. Unfortunately, not everyone lives where they can plant an outdoor garden. The alternative is to set up an indoor hydroponic system.

Gone are the days when farming had to be an elaborate, space-occupying and labor- or machine-intensive activity. These days, you can set up a fully self-sustaining garden or farm that has both animals and plants in one place, with all the components relying on each other in some way. If you are wondering how that is even possible, welcome to aquaponics - a form of farming which combines aquaculture (the raising of fish and other aquatic animals) with hydroponics (the growing of plants without soil) in one system that has unparalleled levels of efficiency.
