About this listen

Fans of Yarbrough's work will recognize Zoë, the passionate art dealer from his first book, The Other Side of What which was published in 2003. Now, 16 years later, we find Zoë still in Memphis and still running her art shop, Hands Across The Board. But Zoë has lost her spirit and the shop has fallen on hard times. Will Zoë close the shop and seek a new direction? Zoë was always the advice-giver among her friends, but now she finds herself seeking counsel from her best friends, Seraphina and Matthew.

Shannon never expected to write a follow-up story to any of the characters from The Other Side. Zoë was originally based on one of his best friends from when he lived in Memphis in the late '90s. Back then when she learned he was going to write a book, she told him to put her in the book and name her Zoë. So that's just what he did. When that friend's daughter recently reached out to ask which of his books her mother appeared in, it made Shannon wonder where Zoë would be now. So, he sat down and started writing to find out.

Another Side of Zoë shows how she has changed over the years, but also how she's remained a strong Black woman with an unbreakable spirit in an ever-changing, and unstable world.
