About this listen
Out of all the divas at New Day Temple of Faith, Unique has to be the most colorful one - she and her mother, Lorain, that is. Never one to hold her tongue in the name of keepin' it real, it's no surprise that Unique has not been saved all her life. It's safe to say that Lorain wasn't born on the church pew either. Let the church folk tell it, the apple hasn't fallen too far from the tree when it comes to Unique.
Lorain - once known as the tight skirt, V-neck blouse, too much makeup-wearing leader of the New Day Singles Ministry - claims she's there to look out for her daughter and try to keep her in check. But how in the world does Lorain think she can even begin to keep her daughter on the straight and narrow with her own crooked life? Some might say Lorain has failed miserably as a mother when Unique ends up in jail for three counts of murder. One who would agree is the woman who raised Unique while Lorain was out living her life freely.
As an all-out war takes place between Unique's birth mother and the woman who raised her, will Unique have any support while she fights for her life behind bars? Will all forsake her while they are too busy with their own agendas? Only God holds the answer to this one.

What was the pastor of New Day Temple of Faith thinking, approving the creation of the New Day Singles Ministry? Better yet, what were its members thinking when they joined? Doreen, lovingly known as the Church Mother of New Day, thought that when she presented the idea of the ministry to the pastor, it could serve as a foundation to empower, encourage, and enlighten the church's single members.

It ain't easy being saved, sanctified, and single. Try being a once divorced, now widowed single mother of two on top of that. Thank God, the Lord built Paige Vanderdale to be able to bear all of those titles without becoming weary to the point of giving up. From the outside looking in, that life looks good on her. On the inside, though, Paige is coveting what so many others around her seem to have, which is true love.

Story
Helen wasn't just born the devious vixen of New Day Temple of Faith. There had to be something rooted deep within her to make her inflict and feed off other people's pain. Perhaps it was her own pain that she had suppressed for so many years - an unimaginable pain - that created an internal prison of which her mind was the only captive. But once the demons within her break free, those around her better beware, as Helen surely becomes the epitome of the saying, "Hurt people, hurt people".

Enjoyed The Book & The Narrator
Would you consider the audio edition of And You Call Yourself a Christian to be better than the print version?
The narrator brought this to life for me more than I would have thought.
What about Cindy CA Pereira’s performance did you like?
Strong diction, and an honesty with the characters.

Love the book but honestly the woman reading the book didn't have the right Attitude in her voice to carry off many parts that could have been funny or more meaningful had it been read by a woman much like the women in the book

God saves those who let him
The character Unique was very relatable, especially since I work, as a social worker with women who are in this same sinking boat. I admire her for her courage and conviction, to do the right thing.
The narrator's voice was pleasant and easy to listen to. She immediately drew me into the story.
I would recommend this book to my co-workers. I believe they would enjoy it.

Would have been pretty good
The book seems like it may be pretty good, but the narration is absolutely terrible! Sounds in the background, repeated words, unnecessary pauses, mispronounced words, etc. If there had been one or two mistakes I could have excused it. I'm sure it has to be taxing to read so much for so long. BUT this book seems amateurish at best. I'd recommend just buying the book and reading it.

Disappointed
I am always looking for faith-based novels. I love books, but it's hard to a book that isn't full of terrible language and sex. I've had a hard time finding novels by Christian authors, so I was super excited when I found this. Unfortunately, the story was not believable and it felt like the author was unfamiliar with their own characters. This is not what these people would say! It felt like someone was trying to convince me that the way their Church does things is the only right way. The worst part for me was the narrator. She was very unconvincing. She sounded like a Caucasian woman trying to play a bunch of black back people from the hood. It just didn't sound believable to me. She is probably a great actress, narrator, this just want the party for her.
