Bourbon like I've never heard before
I enjoy the occasional bourbon, but I never realized how much history and craftsmanship went into every bottle until I picked up this audiobook. The stories about the people behind bourbon and how they established the industry really engaged me. I liked the reading as being friendly and entertaining. I also liked the taste guides and tips for starting a collection—helpful without being elitist. If anything, I would have liked to have even more inside information on modern distilleries. If you’re a casual sipper or a serious collector, this book makes you appreciate bourbon on a whole new level.

Perfect Balance of History and Practical Knowledge
Perfect Balance of History and Practical Knowledge
I downloaded this audiobook for a road trip to Kentucky Bourbon Country and couldn't have chosen better preparation! The narrator's engaging style kept my non-bourbon-drinking spouse interested in the historical sections, which were far more fascinating than I expected.
The prohibition-era stories were my favorite part - I had no idea about the ingenious ways distillers kept their craft alive during those dark years. These weren't just dry facts but compelling narratives about real people risking everything for their passion.
What truly set this book apart was how it transformed my tasting experience once we reached the distilleries. The flavor guide section taught me to identify subtle notes I'd previously missed, making each tasting more meaningful. I impressed our tour guide with questions informed by what I'd learned!
The cocktail recipes were an unexpected bonus. I've already made the updated Old Fashioned for friends with great success. They are perfect for bourbon beginners and those looking to deepen their appreciation beyond just collecting bottles.
