About this listen
After You is the final interconnected standalone novel in the Second Chances Series.
I had the happily ever after...until it was gone.
Three became two. And I was alone.
Our time - my time - was over. Alone was the right way to be. The only way. Life was me, my son, and my memories. Until the day I met someone who turned my lonely existence upside down.
This man made me smile, made me laugh, made me ache for his touch.
But I couldn't.
He shouldn't awaken feelings I resolved to bury with my husband. But he did.
I couldn't let his presence make my heart race. I couldn't let him into our little world, where he fit so perfectly. I couldn't want Nick.
But I did.
***
I rescued people. My family relied on me to lend a hand. Everyone thought of me as the fixer, but no one had the first clue how to fix me. Until Ellie.
The freckled beauty's sorrow was like a well-worn shirt-easy and familiar, difficult to part with-and she wore it comfortably. And though I was hers from the moment our eyes first met, she'd never be mine. I loved her in the here and now, but how did I compete with a ghost?
***
How can there ever be anyone After You?
Please note: After You is not intended for listeners under the age of 18.

Story
My accidental solo vacation takes a turn for the less depressing after a drink that leads to a date with a brawny bedroom-eyed firefighter. I’m 42, divorced, with two daughters at home. I thought romance was in my rearview mirror until the mysteriously intense Leo made me feel like I was the only woman in the Florida Keys. I know better than to get attached. But between midnight kisses and dirty talk under starry skies, our connection feels so real. So right.

Abandoned by a father who didn't want me. Cherished by a stepfather, though I wasn't his. Shattered by a boy who swore he loved me. But I belonged nowhere, to no one. When an unwanted ghost comes knocking on my door, my heartbreaking history threatens to repeat itself. But where do I turn if I lose everyone? And how do I find where I belong, when I'm still Finding Me?

The annoying jerk my parents forced me to play with as a kid grew up to be a sexy, grumpy baker who still can’t stand me. Sure, maybe I enjoy our bitter banter, his cocky smirk, his chocolate chip cookies. But there’s a reason I can’t play nice. You’re wondering why—if I hate the guy so much—did I agree to be his fake date to his cousin’s wedding? Look. Just because I love being a pain in the man’s well-formed butt doesn’t mean I want someone else torturing him. Especially not the ex-fiancée who left him for his best friend.

Story
My life was always at a simmer… only stewing, never going anywhere. I was left to fend for myself when it came to affection or love, so I learned to go without. I refused to let them see how broken and lonely I was; it was much easier to hide behind a false reality. I didn't want anyone's pity. I didn't need it. Pity wouldn't put food on the table or keep a roof over our heads. That was all me. Now, I have a second chance at a dream long forgotten. It demands hard work and sacrifice - with absolutely no distractions. A recipe I already know all too well, raising a daughter on my own.

Once upon a time, a girl loved a boy and he loved her back. They lived happily ever after. But our story was never that simple. I loved Josh with all I had, right until the day he left. Now, all these years later, he was back - and wanting me the way I'd always longed for him. Except now, I belonged to someone else. Someone who never left me the way Josh had. I figured that was the end of our story. I couldn't alter the past. I didn't want to rewrite my future.

Every so often a love story so captures our hearts that it becomes more than a story - it becomes an experience to remember forever. The Notebook is such a book. It is a celebration of how passion can be ageless and timeless, a tale that moves us to laughter and tears and makes us believe in true love all over again.... At 31, Noah Calhoun, back in coastal North Carolina after World War II, is haunted by images of the girl he lost more than a decade earlier.

AWESOME SECOND CHANCE ROMANCE
Any additional comments?
This is such a sweet and sexy second chance story. Nick had his work cut out for him in trying to win Ellie over. As always Tracy Marks did an excellent job with narration. Jack Jr. was such a cute little boy and grew up into a wonderful man.

After You
Would you try another book from Stephanie Rose and/or Tracy Marks?
Yes.
I enjoy Tracy's narration. She has a way of bringing characters to life.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
I appreciated the story needed the angst. In many cases, the angst is over the top and is just a tool to make the characters suffer.
In After You, the characters suffered lose and we saw them deal with it in a believable way. It fir the story and made it much more emotional.
Do you think After You needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No. I think it left Nick and Ellie in a good place.

Incredible Listen!l
Stephanie Rose wrote such an emotional book and Tracy Marks did such a heartfelt performance. This book is full of so many feelings from despair to love to humor and everything in between. The story is well written and is a standalone listen. There are some tearful moments, scenes where I laughed out loud, and love. I received this review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily written this review. My review is my opinion of the book and not a synopsis of it. I will definitely look for more books by the author and narrator.

A second chance story that touched your heart!
What did you love best about After You?
I really enjoyed the story of a second chance love for Ella Jane and Nick. It was emotional and touching but there is humor and laughter involved. I can relate to the story of Ella Jane losing her first love and the struggles she deals with in trying to pursue a second love.
What other book might you compare After You to and why?
The boy next Door by Ella James. It is the same type of second chance love story that brings out the emotional side for me.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Tracy Marks?
I think so.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes....the letters from Jack Sr. to Nick and then his son! It was emotional and touching and made me cry!
Any additional comments?
I read the book first so I knew what the story was about when I listened to it. I had a little bit of a hard time trying to keep the voices straight when she was reading the other characters with different voices. The audible story was still good though overall!

A story of second chances...
After You by Stephanie Rose is a story of second chances. Ellie and Jack Jr. have lived with the loss of Jack Sr. for years. Ellie is doing a great job raising Jack Jr. and isn't looking to get into a relationship, even when Nick, the super handsome and charming firefighter that she had met years ago at a wedding, comes back into her life and shows interest in Ellie and Jack. Nick continues his advances, and Ellie is dealing with her unresolved feeling about moving on from her husband Jack, even years after he passed away.
This story is sweet and emotional, and has an HEA. Nick and Jack Jr's relationship is sweet and Jacks' letter are a nice touch. I felt that the story could have moved a bit quicker overall, but it was still a cute story. I honestly didn't have any extreme emotional reactions like some of the other reviewers, though there are plenty of books that have made me cry and brought out emotional reactions. This just wasn't one of them.
Tracy Marks did a good job with the narration, though I would have liked to have heard a bit more emotion in the narration. I think that likely would have helped get me more invested in Ellie and Nick's story. She did a good job with both the female and male characters and I would definitely check out other books narrated by her. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.

Absolutely Amazing Book
My heart. This book is amazing - beautifully written, it just owned my heart from the very beginning. Ellie had a magical story with her first love, and it's so clear to see why she can't move on. Years later, fate has gifted her a second chance at love with Nick. These two are the sweetest, and Nick is such a great guy I was happy for Ellie. Jack, Ellie's son, is pretty darn cute, and this little family is adorable. The narration complimented the book very well. This plot pulls at all my emotional strings, but in the best way possible. I'm pretty sure I had an aww face for most of it. This is a wonderful book, and I highly recommended it. Ellie May be stubborn, but don't give up on her. Totally worth it. This is a voluntary review of a copy gifted by the author.

Deep and Emotional!
Deep and Emotional!
After You is the final interconnected Standalone novel in the 3 book Second Chances Series. After You is the only one in audio format. Because of this, I ask you take this review with a grain of salt. The characters, specifically Jack, probably carry more weight and meaning to those that have been reading this series. To me, I have just met them, so they are not as dear to me as they may be to others. If I have the chance to read all the other interconnected stories I will update this review. As it stands though, I have to review this with what I got.
Ellie Taylor is a widow with a young son. Her husband, Jack, died a few years ago, and despite his personal requests for her to move on after he was gone, she is finding it hard to do so. Jack knew he was leaving this world and that he would be leaving behind both a young wife and son. He wanted to make sure she wasn’t left to live out the rest of her hopefully long life alone.
At the start of the book Jack has passed already, but he has left letters with a friend to be delivered at strategic times in the lives of the loved ones he left behind. Between these and the memories of those still alive, it is as if Jack is still present. His letters are definitely heart string pulling.
Nick, our hero, tries really hard to make a relationship work with Ellie, but she does not make it easy. He gives it a valiant effort, but she fights far too hard. Ellie’s over-determination to not move on frustrated me. To me, the story is way emotional from the first page and could of done with less running from Ellie and still be just as emotional. All of Ellie’s angst wore me out be the end.
This was my first read by Stephanie Rose. This story is very emotional and the writing captures all the heart wrenching woes. I tend to pace myself on these types of stories. My tender heart bleeds easily. I definitely need a happy palate cleanser story after this intense emotional ride.
Tracy Marks captures every tear jerky, gut stabbing moment this book has to offer. She is an asset to the angst and woe.
I give this book a 4. It evokes the emotions the writing is aiming for. If you like the deep feels kind of books, you will love this. If that kind of book takes a toll on your heart like me, then have a light happy story on standby to read/listen to afterwards.
