When schoolteacher Elsie Mitchell meets rugged William Benton on a train platform in Albany, it appears they have nothing in common. He isn't the sort of fellow a proper young woman of the 1890s would ever speak to, much less become involved with. But when she arrives at her small town in the Adirondack Mountains, Elsie is offered a job as caregiver for this mysterious out-of-towner's niece and nephew, who've been tragically orphaned. Heartbroken for them, she accepts.

Outstanding!
I fell in love with The Uncharted Series and this prequel helps fill in the story as to how the land was found and settled. The author does a terrific job world building, both on the ship and on land. I especially loved the references to Chincoteague Island as that's a favorite place of mine. The sea journey is realistic, I could feel the boat rocking, and the trials the explorers endured were full of tension. The characters - especially Marian - are totally fleshed out. I felt like I was on the journey with her, rooting for her and Jonah. The narration was tight - a little too tight at times, pauses between sections and chapters would have eased transitions - but easy and pleasant to listen to. I recommend this book as well as the series to those looking for something a little different from the standard reading fare out there. It's a clean read - no sex, violence or offensive language - for those who prefer their reads flinch-free. I received a free copy of this audiobook for review purposes.

Sometimes we have to change our view of success
Aboard Providence by Keely Brooke Keith is an interesting adventure story. Set in the 1860s eight families have decided to sail to South America to begin a new colony. It is hard to imagine the bravery of folks of that era, entrusting their lives to the ships of that time. The author stirs the reader's imagination and keeps interest high with her descriptions of the journey, broken compass, storms, and babies born at sea. And of course, there is a tension-filled romance too! The author's descriptive writing style is graceful and flows smoothly. Her characters are well defined and well rounded with attributes and flaws and are realistic in their feelings and reactions. I enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more in this series (Uncharted). I listened to the audiobook version and the narrator, Amy Marie Smith did a great job telling the story, which made for an enjoyable listening experience.
I received a complimentary copy of the audiobook and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.

Exciting Adventure!
This was an exciting, adventure filled book! Lost at sea for months in what should have been a two week voyage to South America. Finally reaching land, not knowing where. Eight founding families begin a new life on "The Land"
There are some secrets and surprises too. No spoilers from me.
I think the narrator did a fine job. There were 2 places where she repeated a word or phrase as if she was starting over. I did find it a bit distracting when the background changed, as if using a different recording booth. But it was not enough to change how I feel about the story which is very good.

Very interesting!
I enjoyed this book very much. The story was great and the narrator put great feeling into each word. I think I could almost feel the ocean breeze and the waves of the ship as Amy Marie Smith read the story.
The lives of the people became almost real to me. Jonah and Marian lives were so interesting and I kept wondering how it was going to work out so that they would both get their hearts desire.
If you like adventures on a ship and a good romance that's intriguing you will like this book. I highly recommend it.

Find out how it began
I've read all the Uncharted series and it was a delight to go back in time to see how it all started. If you haven't read the Uncharted series, then this book is the perfect place to start, and if you have read them, them you'll love this chunk of Uncharted history following the ancestors as they settled The Land.
This would appeal to people who enjoy sweet, clean historical Christian adventure romance with a hint of magic. I listened to the audiobook. The narrator was fabulous and well matched to the story. I reviewed a complimentary copy.
