About this listen
From the author of Drag Teen, a startling novel about the complexities of identity - and of truth.
Marley doesn't just want to be labeled The Gay Kid, but he doesn't have much else going on. He doesn't have any hobbies. Or interests. He's the only kid he knows without a passion...until Christopher comes to town. He's smart, cute, gay, and...the son of the country's most famous, most bigoted television evangelist.
Marley and Christopher immediately spark - and become inseparable. For a month, it's heaven. Then Christopher's parents send him to a Pray Away the Gay program, which leads to even worse things. Hurt and outraged, Marley tells a very big lie - and then has to navigate its repercussions.

Story
The numbers are staggering: Over the past 20 years in Chicago, 14,033 people have been killed and another roughly 60,000 wounded by gunfire. What does that do to the spirit of individuals and community? Drawing on his decades of experience, Alex Kotlowitz set out to chronicle one summer in the city, writing about individuals who have emerged from the violence and whose stories capture the capacity - and the breaking point - of the human heart and soul. The result is a spellbinding collection of deeply intimate profiles that upend what we think we know about gun violence in America.

Maddy is a devoted stay-at-home wife and mother, host of excellent parties, giver of thoughtful gifts, and bestower of a searingly perceptive piece of advice or two. How could the exuberant, exacting woman they loved disappear so abruptly, seemingly without reason, from their lives? How they can possibly continue without her?

Story
It’s been three years since the Virgil County High School Massacre. Three years since my best friend, Sarah, was killed in a bathroom stall during the mass shooting. Everyone knows Sarah’s story - that she died proclaiming her faith. But it’s not true. I know because I was with her when she died. I didn’t say anything then, and people got hurt because of it. Now Sarah’s parents are publishing a book about her, so this might be my last chance to set the record straight. Except Sarah’s martyrdom is important to a lot of people, people who don’t take kindly to what I’m trying to do.

A Very, Very Good Read
I was intrigued with the story line of Christian and Gay. While the story was a little heavy on the anti-Christian leaning, it was tempered with love and compassion for at least one of the antagonists. It also offered a case for truth in situations where truth might not seem to be the best choice. It was well written from the point of teenage angst and then switching to what is more than just a coming of age story.
Really sweet, sad, inspirational, and just a very, very good read.

Perfect book for teens
This book is an extremely authentic story, and it’s also a page turner! It has funny moments and legitimate tragedy both, just like real life sometimes is when you are in high school, like the main characters are here.

Heartbreaking story.
Heartbreaking story. Starts very well becomes a bit laboured in the last quarter though which detracts from the story that kept us all on edge at 1st.
Author makes a point but could of ended the story on the sad note.

Perfect, short book
This book is an extremely authentic story, and it’s also a page turner! It has funny moments and legitimate tragedy both, just like real life sometimes is when you are in high school, like the main characters are here. I would recommend this book to not only GLBT teenagers who are potential he coming out or coming to terms with identity, but also parents who are watching their kids do the same because that’s a very real part of the struggle this book illustrates, not only allies, but to anyone who is open to reading about the GLBT adolescent experience and just wants a great summer listen!

Bury Your Gays
I could not finish this book. The reader was fine. I felt blindsided by this book. I did not expect to encounter the "bury your gays" trope in a YA book from Audible's pride month page. The trope is over done and harmful to the LGBT community, especially younger people.
