About this listen
When famous human musician Melody wakes two thousand years after a nuclear winter, she thinks she’s landed on the right side of a war. Fae are called the Tainted. They’re warped, mutated creatures who hoard the bounty of the new magical land. It’s her job in the human city to sling propaganda in the form of daily songs performed to a select tower of elite.
But this position makes her sought after by many, including a ghastly military man, the evil president of the new world, and an enigmatic stranger who turns up at her doorstep asking for help.
Forrest is the good guy—the elf people go to when they want help, no questions asked. And when he learns he’s the only Guardian with the looks to pass as human, he accepts the job to infiltrate the enemy city and bring a kidnapped fae child home. He never counted on meeting a woman so extraordinary, he hardly believes she exists. Melody—the human harbinger—swiftly captures his heart and tempts him out of a long lifetime of celibacy.
As trouble brews within the ranks of the human elite, Forrest and Melody must come to terms with their forbidden desires…and decide which sacrifice is worth the cost—one of their hearts, or one of freedom.
A Song of Sky and Sacrifice is the first installment in the Season of the Elf, but the seventh book in the Fae Guardians series.

Plucked out of the Collector’s Pens, auctioned off to a vampire contingent, and sent across the ocean to the Alpha Territories was not exactly how I planned to spend my week. Actually, scratch that. I had planned the first bit. But I was supposed to be sold to the werewolves so I could save my friend from a fate worse than death. Instead, the bloodsuckers have me and so far? It's not going great. I've been shoved into a corset and made to look like an extra on the cast of Bridgerton, all to take part in the Harvest Games....

We’d heard rumors about the Vandar raiders — everyone in the galaxy had. Terrifying and ruthless, they were a scourge on the Zagrath empire and destroyed everything in their path. Few had actually laid eyes on the Vandar or the notorious warlords who led their fleets of warships — and survived to talk about it. So, when the ruthless aliens boarded our ship intent on destroying it and killing the crew, I did the only thing I could do. I gave myself to the dark and menacing warlord.

Unless, of course, the angelic-looking horseman is stopped, which is exactly what Sara has in mind when she shoots the unholy beast off his steed. Too bad no one told her Pestilence can’t be killed. Now the horseman, very much alive and very pissed off, has taken her prisoner, and he’s eager to make her suffer. Only, the longer she’s with him, the more uncertain she is about his true feelings towards her, and hers towards him. And now, well, Sara might still be able to save the world, but in order to do so, she'll have to sacrifice her heart in the process.

An Elf after my heart ❤️🩹
Forest and Melody are a wonderful match. Their little broken pieces fit together so nicely. It was relatable to have a plus sized female lead struggling with the body positivity issues I struggle with and blush worthy how Forest looked at, thought about and devoured her both figuratively and literally 😉
The chemistry between these two has the potential for so much spice but boy do these two get shut down left and right. What we do get is darn hot but I still felt like I wanted more spice from them because they are feral for each other and as Melody said (spoiler) Forest didn’t even get to chase her through the woods and have his way with her 🥵🥵🥵
Being stuck in the human city/tower for most of the story was a bit jarring compared to the fun and magical world building of the rest of the series but it was worth it to get the satisfaction of everything that happens with Forest’s family. I honestly wait in turmoil for each book in this series because not only is each book a wonderfully spicy HEA but the world building and overarching connected story leaves me desperate to know what is next. The Faye Guardians series is definitely worth your credits 💖✨🐺🦇🦌🦅💀

the ridiculous southern accents
The humans are from Nevada.. Freaking Vegas. Not Alabama.. com"on. Both narrators used it for the Fae too.. who are in the same geographical location just in the future. Nevada is desert not southern not even south western and soth western accents are not Alabama. 🙄 This extremely irritated me. I'm 5 chapters in... not sure if I can finish because of this alone.

I’ve noticed
I’ve noticed that some of the authors I’ve been reading for years have started writing since the “ woke” and alphabet people have been roaring that they have started lecturing in their books how we must accept them or we are horrible wrong people. Getting tired of the lectures. That said the female narrator is pretty good the male not so much. Story isn’t to bad

Putting a child in second place is not ok with me
Mild Spoiler warning. Out of all the books so far I disliked this one the most. As a parent, to me it came across as Melody and Forest putting 6 year old Willow in second place, and focusing on themselves first. I really wish they did everything possible and impossible first to rescue her, but at the end Melody even says something like “what about US? What about what WE went through.” Really? It came across so selfish. As an adult I would put the kid first, and nothing I went through would matter. Other than that I like the main storyline and can’t wait until the void is defeated, and wonder how Rory will continue. I’m skipping the spicy distractions to hear the main story line faster.
