About this listen
God has provided a way for all people, not just scholars, to know that the Bible is the word of God. John Piper has devoted his life to showing us that the glory of God is the object of the soul's happiness. Now, his burden in this book is to demonstrate that this same glory is the ground of the mind's certainty.
God's peculiar glory shines through his word. The spirit of God enlightens the eyes of our hearts. And in one self-authenticating sight, our minds are sure, and our hearts are satisfied. Justified certainty and solid joy meet in the peculiar glory of God.

Story
From Genesis to Revelation, the providence of God directs the entire course of redemptive history. Providence is “God’s purposeful sovereignty”. Its extent reaches down to the flight of electrons, up to the movements of galaxies, and into the heart of man. Its nature is wise and just and good. And its goal is the Christ-exalting glorification of God through the gladness of a redeemed people in a new world.

Story
What happens in the heart when it experiences real saving faith? John Piper argues that faith in Christ is not saving unless it includes an "affectional dimension of treasuring Christ." Nor is God glorified as he ought to be unless he is treasured in being trusted. Saving faith in Jesus Christ welcomes him forever as our supreme and inexhaustible pleasure. What Is Saving Faith? explains that a Savior who is treasured for his all-satisfying worth is more glorified than a Savior who is only trusted for his all-forgiving competence

In our shrinking, pluralistic world, the belief that Jesus is the only way of salvation is increasingly called arrogant and even hateful. In the face of this criticism, many shrink back from affirming the global necessity of knowing and believing in Jesus. In Jesus: the Only Way to God, John Piper offers a timely plea for the evangelical church to consider what is at stake in surrendering the unique, universal place of Jesus in salvation.

The subtitle of this work, "Defeating Sin with Superior Pleasure", says it all. There is godly pleasure in applying the faith that first saved us in everyday circumstances, defeating the unbelief and lies that Satan throws at us. Fighting those lies, and the resultant anxiety, pride, impatience, and other sinful attitudes that trip us up, with what Piper calls "the purifying power of God's truth", blesses us with peace as we see God enabling us to live by faith in his promises and his grace.

A lifelong pursuit of knowing God should embody the Christian's existence. According to eminent theologian J.I. Packer, however, Christians have become enchanted by modern skepticism and have joined the "gigantic conspiracy of misdirection" by failing to put first things first. Knowing God aims to redirect our attention to the simple, deep truth that to know God is to love His Word.

What is his will for us today? Drawing on the Sermon on the Mount, Dietrich Bonhoeffer answers these timeless questions by providing a seminal reading of the dichotomy between "cheap grace" and "costly grace."

Facing criticism even from others who had disagreements with the Catholic church, Luther’s strong and absolute beliefs on the gift of salvation were truly revolutionary. This work contains the full amount of research, discussion, and debate on Luther’s ideas on free will as it pertains to individual Christians and to their understanding of God.

Story
The Gospel According to Jesus challenges Christians to re-evaluate their commitment to Christ by examining their fruits. MacArthur asks, "What does it really mean to be saved?" He urges listeners to understand that their conversion was more than a mere point in time, that, by definition, it includes a lifetime of obedience.

Story
Why is the church so ineffectual and characterized by the mosaic generation as unchristian? The term born again has been devalued both in society and in the church. Recent social studies surveys have shown that those who regard themselves as born again Christians have the same tendency to divorce as people who aren't Christians at all! In these surveys, being born again is defined by what people say they believe.

Needs a different narrator
Maybe other listeners are enjoying this reading just fine, but to my ear, the narrator seems to have an edge to his voice, as if the text is his side of an argument that is starting to irritate him. I don't sense any affinity for the content or for John Piper's voice. If the audiobook were the only way to read it, I would stick with it, but since an ebook is available I am going to switch to it.

A gem worth listening to.
This was an absolute gem of a book. There was so much richness and depth. It wasn’t a book one could listen to quickly. In fact, I probably relisten to every part many times because there was so much.
I found such joy in knowing His Glory, but also had a deep sadness, because of how much I neglect to recognise it.
My favourite line by far was when looking at the stars, don’t get blinded/distracted by the street lights.
Thank you to the narrator for doing a superb job!

Brilliant illustrations to explain difficult theology. Narrator is somewhat boring. Looking forward to reading the next one in the series.

Excellent edification for a seasoned Christian
I truly enjoyed this book. So thankful for the way Piper unpacks the Bible, detailing “in between the lines” if you will. A must read for all souls, new or seasoned Christians.
