About this listen

Miss Gwendolyn Brinley accepted a temporary paid companion position for the Newport summer season, believing it would be a lark to spend the summer in America's most exclusive town. She suddenly finds her summer turning anything but amusing when her employer expects her to take over responsibilities as an assistant matchmaker. Tasked with the daunting prospect of attaining advantageous matches for her clients, Gwendolyn soon finds herself in the company of Mr. Walter Townsend, the catch of the Season, but a gentleman Gwendolyn finds beyond annoying.

Walter is reluctantly in search of a wife for the sake of his unruly motherless children. What he wasn't expecting was Miss Brinley, who turns his quest for a new wife into a complete and utter debacle.

The more time they spend together throughout the Newport Season, the harder it is for Gwendolyn to find Walter a wife when she realizes his perfect match might be . . . her.

A Romance?

The conversations and interactions among the characters were delightful. An amusing romp but a romance? Not so much. You could see the relationship developing between Walter and Gwen but there was no physical attraction or evidence of an emotional connection. The narration was poorly done. Although the narrator’s voice was pleasant the inflection was all wrong and the cadence was off. Because of the narration I do not recommend the audio book. If the reader wants a light hearted romp I recommend the kindle version.

So fun!

I love Jen Turano. I have a lot of her books. She balances witty, powerful, beautiful main characters with equally charming gentlemen. Both unsuspecting in their own way. I just love this book! Thank you so much and keep writing!

Excellent story with fantastic narration

Loved the story but I may have loved the narrator the most. What a breath of fresh air to have a woman not attempt to lower her voice nine octaves when reading a male character’s line. Her voice was also incredibly pleasant to listen to as a whole.

Hilarious and Heartwarming!

Jen has done it again by creating a story that tugs at the heart and all while making me chuckle at the antics of ponies and children. I anticipate reading and listening to lots more of her stories!

Delightful

Jen Turano’ s characters are always quirky and endearing. Gwendolyn and Adelaide do not disappoint with funny banter and laugh out loud mishaps. I enjoyed the stories twists and turns. While the setting is the same as her others books, this is a fresh new adventure. I highly recommend!

Rather abrupt ending…

Lovely story, but this is a good example of book that need an additional chapter or an epilogue. Maybe the intent is that you will read book two, but this ending lest me wanting just a smidge more.

Loved this story ❤️

Just found this author & narrator. I’m glad I did. Although the narrator sounded breathy at times it suited the main character. It was sometimes hard to tell who was talking since several of the characters sounded the same. But it did not take away from the laugh out loud moments and the no nonsense manner of the main character. Looking forward to more books from this author.

Great story!

I loved this story! The narrator kept taking me out of the book, though, because she has a predictable speech pattern that I had to frequently ignore. Also, there’s a faint beeping sound throughout the whole book… it might not be too noticeable, but it was very distracting. The narration wasn’t horrible…just distracting.

Absolutely delightful!

Jen Turano always writes with so much humor in her books. Usually it’s due to the witty and quirky characters. This book was no exception. A matchmaker’s assistant during the “season” in Newport, RI finds herself not only searching our gentlemen for the ladies, but also ladies for a few gentlemen too. The book was delightful and the characters memorable! There is also a faith thread through the book. The narrator grows on you and I enjoyed listening.
