About this listen

Published in 1905 by Frances Hodgson Burnett - author of the beloved The Secret Garden - this is the story of Sara Crewe, the adored and pampered daughter of a wealthy widowed father. Sara suffers great losses but taps in to her "inner princess", and with strength, imagination, and storytelling, she triumphs over her sad circumstances while at the same time inspiring her fellow school companions.

The Academy Award-winning director Alfonso Cuaron made an acclaimed movie of this story and helped inspire young children and preteens to rise above unhappy and difficult circumstances through imagination and storytelling.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Don't have to recommend A Little Princess, don't know anyone that isn't familiar with the story. Even men have heard of it or even read it themselves.

What other book might you compare A Little Princess to and why?

I really don't know. I generally don't compare things like this. It's only when a theme has been overworked so much that I can't help but notice a comparison.

What about Jennifer M Dixon’s performance did you like?

Jennifer Dixon did such a lovely reading of this classic tale. She brought so much feeling and meaning into the characters. Totally charming.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, it was a book to listen to for awhile and then sit back and ponder on the words of wisdom and twists of fate.

Any additional comments?

I noticed on some other sites some complaints about it being racist, to much talk about Indians, etc etc. Frankly the pc police just need to stay in reality and not look for a boogieman everywhere. Of course there was a lot about India, Sara Crewe grew up in India, yes she had servants, nothing racist about that they weren't enslaved. Just loved the book and the movie does not stay faithful to the book, but loved the movie too.
